I havent had much success here in Arizona. The rains have been very sparse, and it hasnt been enough to get the seeds to sprout. I keep forgetting to water them when I do scatter them.
I remember when I was little my parents had much success and they had taken over a yard every spring for a couple of years. I also remember them telling me that it was "poison" and to be careful. A couple of years ago my father told me they were papaver somniforum.

Hi there, they are easy to grow, I've never harvested. Scatter them in a bed/border and nature will pretty much to the rest, beautoful plant. If you dont have seeds and would like some check the link below

go to wally world and by a bottle of poppy seeds...about 85% will germinate, grow, flower and make poppies. They are small but they are still the real mccoy.

I've experienced the ease at which papavar grow...my concerns are more related to the harvesting....(does the opium disolve in water?)

possibly in hot water, hence a tea. the fats are insoluble (that's what xylene's for).

poppies grow like weeds here in central/south Texas, wherever seed is thrown.

Yea I thought opium was partially 'refined' by boiling it in hot water after it's harvested to get some of the useless stuff out. IDK something I have no experience with.

so do you think it would work to take the pods after they're ripe and ready, grind them all up and boil it all, then filter out the solid stuff then boil off the water and whats left is the opium?

No, you need to slice the pods a certain way for the opium to seep out.

I don't think he's talking about tea, I think he wants the smokeable product, FWIU. Maybe I misunderstood though.

well, I think you could break down the tea over and over again to where your left with a tar, couldnt smoke it though, but you could probably fill capsules and swallom them, which would probably be easier than drinking so much tea

REALLY strong, not too too bad, but just real earthy and thick and sour. We mixed in grapefruit, lemon, lime, sugar, anice extract, and some lemon tea, and it still didnt mask that taste lol. But well worth it anyway

Im interested in the tea? So just cut off a couple of mature heads, and slice them? Then let them infuse in hot water for awhile? Flavor and drink later?

No, you need dried pods, smash them into a million little peices, add hot water, mix in some juice (grapefruit and lemon) then pour through a strainer, then drink it. Basically that's it, just read the faq on poppies.org

why wouldn't it work to boil it all, filter it, then boil off any moisture and smoke? I've read instructionals that say to get a finer product to do that anyway(to filter out any remaining plant matter) thats how home made hash works

I tried pricking them a couple of summers ago and I highly doubt I could have gotten a gram out of the 20-25 plants I had
