i was wandering if raised beds are effective? Maybe paint the walls a camo color? Has any1 ever used these?also, has any1 ever heard of putting a milk jug down in the soil next to the plants ...put a few holes in the jug so that it slowly releases water to plants? this seems like a good idea i just wanted to see what yall thought, thanks alot
I use raised beds for my vegetables they grow a lot better than planting them in the ground. Obviously you can put excellent soil in them plus you get good drainage. Camo sounds a good idea as they would stand out. Depends on what the terrain is like where you are growing. You can just dig a hole and put your soil in it but with a raised bed you have a little more control of things and theres not as much danger of flooding. Rangerdanger is the outdoorman sure he knows more about it than me.
Raised beds are usually used for growing plants that have shallow root systems (like veggie's), NOT marijuana which can have roots that extend over 3' deep and 3' wide. Also, marijuana doesn't like "wet feet". That means it does best when the soil dries out a bit between waterings. I have a friend who grew plants outside and he was dissatisfied with how slowly they were growing. I went over and had a look. He had a drip system hooked up to his planters, a constant drip drip drip--the soil was always wet. I had him spend 5 bux for a little 9-v timer that changed constant drip to intermittent. The plants took off Marijuana needs to access O2 via it's roots. And roots don't grow well in mud (i.e. saturated soil). That's why growers add perlite to the soil--for aeration.
would it be worth trying. Would it work to dig a little one foot hole in the ground and then put a raised bed into it, maybe a 2 foot raised bed above the ground. This would give a total of about 3 feet for roots without much digging.
I'm always of the opinion everything is worth trying. Try a raised bed and try without. You can do your own experiment and let everybody know which works better. I'm sure you will get decent plants with both methods. Grow in several diferent places using different methods and differnt strains if possible. Just follow the basic rules of growing i.e good well draining soil e.t.c. Then you will find your favourite most successful method and stick with it. I am not an expert on outdoor growing but it seems having several grow areas would ensure a harvest just in case one is found or a few plants get decimated by pests or vermin.
