|'ve never had them, but | suspect them. After | take showers, my head still itches like hell. |'ve only dreaded (back-combed) one side of my head, [|'m letting the other side go natural] And the back-combed side of my head is the only side that itches! |'m so scared. What's to be expected/suspected if | have them? Help!! Please!! This is majorly stressing me out!!
Whew. Yeah. | just had my mom check my head, and she said she didn't see anything. :HUGE sigh: So will the itching go away in time? You're saying my scalp is most likely not used to it. Thanks.
doesnt sound like lice to me either, but out of curiosity, what do pple with dreadies do if they do get bugs? treat with tea tree oil and hope for the best? chances are that a dreadhead wouldnt want to put toxic chemicals on their heads, and a lot of lice are resistant to the chemicals that are available anyways. the local schools just tell parents to wet comb with lots of conditioner...that's not really an option for y'all.
I just wash once a week, and it never itches. Only at the beginning when I didn't wash for 3 weeks orso. And it itched the most when I washed after 3 weeks.
Hmm... | wash my hair pretty often. Three times a week at the least. It seems that whenever | think about my head being itchy, it gets itchy. Maybe it's just a state of mind... It probably is just my scalp getting used to not getting combed out. Because the only place/s where it really itches, is where certain dread roots are located.
My friend with dreads killed bugs by soaking his hair in tea tree everyday for like 12 days or something. Another friend killed them by bleaching her locks, another by dyeing them. My partner and I picked up bugs at a rainbow gathering about 2 years back now and he shaved off ten years worth of beautiful blonde fatties, his beard too. I almost cried, he looked about 12 years old. I didnt have locks back then so I got rid of them with conventional methods, it took a long time tho. I still get paranoid abotu them quite often as my scalp still gets itchy quite often. I hear a rosemary rinse is good for itch but I still haven`t tried it. Just typing thjis is making me itch....
i had (have) fatties and i had lice about six months ago. they were relatively easy to get rid of. i have one word for you people - vinegar! for apx. 2 weeks, every other day (which was a bitch, as you can imagine, in the heart of the winter, my hair never dried) i soaked my locks in a 3/4 vinegar 1/4 water with some peppermint and tea tree oils thrown in. every other night i did this, and then attached two plastic bags over my head. i also bought some stuff online for taking care of lice for LOCKS, called delacet - it's expensive as hell ($20 or so) and comes from england, but it arrived quickly. i used that twice in between the vinegar treatment. the vinegar serves to break down the glue that bonds the nits to the hair. my friend doused her head in vaseline (it was nasty nasty) and that seemed to have worked. they also sell some 'natural' lice treatments at most local drug stores, which will kill the lice but not the nits. i'd say use all the above together - something should work! then vacuum and wash all your major stuff in hot water. and, importantly, don't hug or share clothes with your friends! they'll be pissed if they get lice too~!
wow, that sucks about your bf's dreads crystal. must have been so heartbreaking a lot of the 'natural' kits are based on tea tree oil, that stuff seems to work on everything from athlete's foot to lice to wounds
I have an awesome ACV dreadie rinse, it works great for the itchies, AND it's a pretty good repellant. Steep a bit of rosemary, and some stinging nettle heavily in a cup of water. Add some Vitamin E oil (I usually just break open 2-4 capsules in it) Add 1/2-1 Cup of Apple cider vinegar A few drops of tea tree oil Dilute with water (probably 4-8 cups, depending on how strong you want it. This shit is a little smelly, but it REALLY does the job. I've known people who killed their bugs out in the woods with a toxic mix of vinegar, tea tree, cayenne pepper, and such - the story I've heard is that you're supposed to get it all up in there, cap it, and leave it for as long as possible. A few summers ago I picked up bugs on tour and hit them with the regular OTC shampoo. I used almost two whole bottles of the stuff and left it on my head until my scalp went numb but it worked! I mean, I would prefer not to have to chemy-fy my hair, but the way I see it, when I get that close to losing my locks IT'S ON! Good luck with your itches. Try the rinse.
I once read, that the finish sauna was among other things created to fight bugs. It's a dry sauna, with about 80-90 °C so it's real hot. So if I ever get bugs in my dreadies, that would be one attempt(mixed with most of the methods mentioned up here) 7 years of dreadies are all worth it.
