You believe in the same sky daddy that these nuts have, for centuries, conjured up as the names they KILL in the name of. Thus, you are going to be linked by association realistically. If I claim to be a National Socialist, but not a racist or Hitlerite, I am still going to be seen in that light--because of the 12 YEAR HISTORY of the Nazis. But, you "Christians" have 2,000+ years of (or more counting the O.T.) of garbage thrown on our heads and your "leaders" (or at least those in charge) claim your religion too and they are trying to strip our rights away. "Christians" and other religions can't even agree with each other and all of them claim to be "real" Christians while claiming the others aren't. Yet they all use the same book and claim the same god. So, pardon me if it may take some time for me to actually swallow anything a "believer" says regarding anything major and life-altering. I would be friends with anyone, but if some told me that actually believed in leprechauns, I'd be very skeptical to trust this person on matters that counted. Especially if leprechaun-believers had a history of violence and oppression.
Wow, next we will have 2 brothers from the same family, raised by the same parents, with totally different political opinions, each claiming the other is wrong!
ah, well Lib. I am tired of defending that I and many others are not bad people because we have this system of belief even if we are not funi or have not oppressed anyone or even if i believe in not hurting others. even in the same religion people will not agree with eachother and there are bad people in the world and there are good people and they all have different beliefs and background etc. saying all christians are bad because of the actions of others is wrong and like saying all whites are rich snobs, all blacks violent gangster, all natives alcoholics, all mexicans are farm workers, all muslims are terrorist, all men cheat on their wives, and all women can not do math and the generalizations could go on and on and still be the same as saying because someone is a christian they are bad and out to get everyone who is not. it is a generalization just the same an offensive one to those who are good people that love everyone no matter what just because they are a part of humanity. so I don't know how else to make what i mean more apparent maybe i just don't have the right words. ah, well its been a great conversation. (I am not mean even if i sound that way sometimes, promise) love.
It's not just "Christians", sunshine...it's "CHRISTIANITY" itself. Just so you realize what I am saying here. You could call yourself a "NATIONAL SOCIALIST" and not hate Jews or believe in racism, but because you have linked yourself to an intolerant philosophy by association, you and those like you will be doubted, dealt with skeptically and dismissed by many people. As unfortunate as that is, it doesn't change the fact that "Christians" want to cherry-pick all the niceties of their religion and either ignore or sugarcoat it's bloody past by claiming those people (who canonized their Bible and colonized their religion) weren't "real Christians." That's like saying that "Real" Nazis believed in national pride and socialistic economy but didn't believe in killing Jews. Good luck with that. You may not be intolerant, but unfortunately you have linked yourself to a philosophy that is. And if you want to change that perception (rooted in fact) then you have that right, but it's not going to be easy as dismissing the lies, obvious borrowed myths, illogic and actions of Christians and their intolerant religious philosophy. The same applies to Islam, Judaism or any religion which believes that THEY ARE RIGHT and everyone else is WRONG and will suffer for it. AND PLEASE...don't compare RACE with RELIGIOUS CHOICE. There's no comparison. PS. Just so you know, I have no problem with the teachings of the one called Jesus. It's his so-called followers and their creation of "Christianity" that I disdain.
sorry about the race/religion thing i was just making a point on generalizations. thanks for the P.S. it helps my understanding of where your coming from.
Politics is a choice. Just as religion. Race is not a choice. Yes, I don't believe Jesus was a supernatural being, but his teachings were right on! Whereas his "followers" are so far OFF that it has retarded human progress for centuries. Oppressing the advancements of science, medicine, liberty, independent thought, etc...etc.
haha i was editing my post cuz i didn't want to start that debate while you were answering sorry. thats funny. but i guess i'll have to answer this anyhow. I don't feel as I have retarded progress in any way nor have the people i associate with. I do believe that groups claiming religion have done this(these people were bad and wrong in their actions and some still do these things and are bad and wrong) but it doesn't make it wrong to have a spiritual life. because as you said religion is a choice. I'm not a stupid person, I understand that science is there, I know that med. is important, and I believe in independent thought. plus you can't pick to on me now after you gave me such an enthusiasitc compliment in the members pictures area.
I have no love lost with religion for sure. Spirituality I am very skeptical of. As for your comments about you, you seem to be a very kind, patient, and understanding person, indeed. And an extremely physically attractive woman to boot! It's not you, personally, I have issues with. It's the history and practices of the "Christian" philosophy. Such as the example at the beginning of this thread.
