I think the turkey I used to make my sandwich was a little off. It kinda smelt like a pumpkin but I ate it anyways because I had some this morning and it smelt the same then. Though I did get a little sick from it this morning. Anywho it was sort of grayish when I looked at it but not so grayish that it looked unedible. It's been in the fridge for about a week and a half. Is that too long for turkey to sit?

A week in the fridge shouldn't be too long, but maybe it wasn't very fresh when you got it.

I'd get some new turkey. Go to the butcher, it's a little priceier, but it's worth it.

Not really. I could have eaten something else but the Turkey was there.

It wasn't prepackaged turkey this was a full turkey that takes a whole bloody day to cook and I 've been eating the leftovers for awhile now because no one else will eat the brown bread. I also found out it's been in there for a little over two weeks not my perviously thought of one and a half. I think maybe I should throw it out tomarrow considering that will make it almost three weeks it's been in there, but only if it's grayer and smells even more like a pumpkin or if it smells and looks completly different. I dunno who here would eat three week old turkey that smells like pumpkin and looks sort of gray?

  7. A week is a long time for poultry to sit unfrozen, it wouldn't be bad for you but i'm guessing it has that disgusting "week old salty decomposing" smell.

If you don't mind the taste, eat it.

i've known people to have to go to the hospital and damd near die from eating spoiled poultry, even that didn't yet smell bad. if in doubt throw it out.

i hate the idea of being wasteful, but people can, do, and have, died from doing that!

what you can do, with anything you're uncertain about, is cook the hell out of it. get it hot enough to kill any known life form, and then maybe quick freeze it and cook the hell out of it again.

this will of course turn it into a totaly unappatizing mush, but if that's all you've got to survive on and you have a way of doing this, at least it improves the odds of it not killing you.

but again, if it's at all dubious, get rid of it, and just make sure you eat up anything that might spoil like that, BEFORE it starts to go bad.

Okay so now I have turkey in the fridge that I won't eat but I don't really want to throw out. I should really throw it out.

As to damn near dieing....well it hasn't killed me yet but that's probably what bear trainers say just before they're mauled.

I think it might be some kind of genetic thing, my mum always gets away with eating food that has obviously gone over, even milk products that are suspect in smell and colour. I can't count the times she's eaten things that had blue fuzzy mold on it. At least I won't eat something when it starts to grow fur and tries to crawl away.
