The sleeve that the tea bag comes in, the paper ones. It looks and rips like paper but I was wondering if there is anything added to the paper that makes it unsuitable for recycling programs. You know like sometimes cardboard containers have a wax or plastic layering that renders it unrecyclable for some recycling programs. Does anyone else recycles these things.
best post of the thread award, right here! better quality tea, better taste, less waste, AND no need to try to figure out how in the hell to recycle the little plasticky lined paper sleeves!
I normally do use loose tea, see [thread=129057]How do you prefer to make loose leaf tea? [/thread] post if ya don't believe me. But some1 gave me lots of this bagged stuff so I was wondering. Anyways I use bagged tea at work cos loose tea was just too much of a clean up and there's been complaints of loose tea clogging drains. Not that any of it was mine, other ppl's.
Some of those little wrappers are recycleable, some aren't. When I resort to drinking bagged tea, some come rapped individually. Some are 100% paper, some are paper with a thin plastic lining inside for freshness. I'm not sure if that plastic makes it suitable for recycling or not, but I try it anyways, as I'm unable to stick that in my composter. Btw, loose tea prevails!
i'd do a flame test (at home) if it smells like paper, get a coffee can (or any can) and put some wet fruit/veg scraps in with several of teh bags. If they compost, they shoudl be fine for recycling. what's the brand?
