Ok. The main topic in America right now is illegal immigration. Recently, I heard in the news that the Mexican people recorded an all-Spanish version of the "Star Spangled Banner". Now, I think it's great that they did this, but it seems some people don't think the same..Some thick-headed people think it's a terrible thing that they did it. Why? What's so bad about the Mexican people wanting to feel at home? Here, in Canada, it's almost the same thing with the First Nations people. And when I say almost, I mean because we took their land from them. Although most of the southern parts of America were stolen from Mexicans...anyways..George W(the W stands for Wanker) Bush went on record to say that he hated the fact that the Mexicans are changing the national anthem...for themselves, and he said that if you want to be an American citizen, you should learn how to speak English. I heard this and nearly choked on my food! I hope that all Americans don't think like this, because you don't know how bad Bush is making you Yankees look to us up here in Canada...
what is wrong with believing the national anthem should be in english only? What is wrong with expecting people to learn english? La Marseillaise is not sung in english...or arabic. melting pot > salad bowl. And do i really need to answer this: "What's so bad about mexican people wanting to feel at home?" The issue is about immigration. Think long and hard before you answer. Please.
I am reluctant to post because I feel my words will be twisted around to make me look like something I am not...but... I live in the US and no, we aren't all like that. I do not agree with what Bush said (I usually don't!) and I think it was rude. I also think it's convenient we can give Hispanics crap jobs then whine that they are 'stealing jobs'. They aren't coming over here and knocking corporate bigwigs out of their seats. Did you know most slaughterhouse workers are Hispanic? This is not my opinion, this is a fact* What do you do when you must feed your family and can't unionize? I feel if you go to a country, you should be given free courses in that language. If you choose not to take it, that is your decision, but you cannot expect people to cater to you. I do not believe this happens often though. I do not believe many people come here, refuse to learn English, then get mad if people do not speak Spanish. If I were to go to Spain I would think it is necessary for me to learn Spanish. If I went to Germany, I would not expect them to speak English for me (though many countries speak English as well as their national language). I feel we should teach our American kids foreign languages as mandatory classes at a young age (it makes no sense, developmentally, speaking, to teach a 9th grader Spanish I when young children are much more apt to learn a new language). No one is changing the national anthem as a form of being unpatriotic. Quite the opposite. Why not have both? If you want to sing it in German, Spanish, whatever. The national anthem belongs to the people of America, no matter what language it is sung in. If you break it down far enough we are all immigrants! My family came here and I have Ukraian, German, English, French, and other roots. The only people who can fuss about American truly being their own is the Native Americans and look what we did to them..
"We" give them the crap jobs? Society isn't one evil white man trying to keep down the hispanic. Do you think we should give illegal immigrants the "good" jobs? They should be getting *no* jobs. I agree. I agree. We should start language classes early. It is a form of unity. I believe the english language helps bind a rather diverse set of people towards one common ideal. Did Native Americans not emigrate to America like everyone else? Being American has nothing to do with birthplace. You would think that you'd want to learn the language of the country you're trying to move to. We should be turning Mexicans(insert citizens of any country) into Americans, not setting up little mexico in America.
Well, there's no evidence they evolved here like our ancestors...does science not show that man spread out from africa? Native Americans are no more native than the baby born 5 minutes ago...
My theory is all black people came from this woman the picture was found in a african cave and dated 8 millions year ago carbon date.
It's no coincidence at all. The story of the Mexican style of music you're talking about had its origins in central Texas around 1830 when a few immigrants established the first German settlement. The word about Texas spread back home, and within a few years formal efforts were under way to help Germans establish themselves in what would become known as the German Belt. At the time — and even now, to a certain extent — the Río Grande marked more of a political and geographical divide than a cultural one, and the musical styles of the immigrants became popular among those of Mexican heritage. One of the most important musical instruments of the Germans' musical style, the accordion, became especially popular and was frequently used in dance music such as waltzes and polkas. Today, various overlapping styles of music that descended in part from the German music include tejano (from the Spanish name for Texas, Tejas), conjunto (which features the accordion along with the bajo sexto, similar to a 12-string guitar), Tex-Mex, quebradita (heavy on the horns), banda (similar to the polka), ranchera, norteño and various mixtures of the above. The musical style also has influenced music from other parts of Mexico, such as the mariachi music of the Guadalajara area. Such musical styles are especially popular in northern Mexico and in places of the United States where there is a large immigrant population of Mexican heritage. Incidentally, the music is nearly always performed in Spanish, even by Mexican-Americans who speak primarily English. (Native Texan and crossover artist Selena sang in Spanish as a girl long before she could speak Spanish, which she learned to market herself better in Mexico.) So common is the tejano-style genre that in the United States it is often erroneously viewed as synonymous with Mexican music (or even with Spanish-language music). In fact, though, Mexican music these days is incredibly diverse. Although you'll hear tejano on Mexico City radio stations, you'll also hear Mexican-produced rock o rap en español as well as the same English-language hits you can hear across the border to the north. Spanish-language versions of songs by international performers such as Enrique Iglesias and Shakira are also quite popular.
i really don't care to have an evolution discussion. But, I hope you know that there is a major difference between a scientific theory and a crackpot theory that joe schmoe believes in....
Actually the real story is factorys are going to china . mexican imigrants are the least of our problems .
Why is this turning into a discussion of evolution? There has been significant hand wringing on the right about this issue. Some in Congress would like to pass a resolution on the "issue." For the record, the U.S. government commissioned a Spanish version of the song in 1919. The State Dept. website features four different Spanish versions. La Bandera de las Estrellas Check it out.
and mexico as most all the parts in a chevy truck is built in mexican factorys "including the engine"
