I am a huge fan of Hermann Hesse. However, I havent really enjoyed Steppenwolf as much as his other novels. It's taken me almost a month to read this book, I even skipped a pages. Any thoughts on this one?
It's the only Hermann Hesse book I've read so far, and I loved it. I often quote it, because it reflects a lot of my own thoughts. But I recognize it was the beginning what captivated me the most; I didn't like the second half that much.
Hi! When I first read it I found it very hard not to skip pages (like you). I just didn't understand it! But I "forced" myself to try it again (something in me said that I had to do that) and then it went a lot better. I like the story a lot now! Love!
I didn't skip pages, but, on some instinctive level, the book really did little for me, unlike other books by Hesse. What I appreciate most about his works is not the intellectual gain, but rather the subconscious, or emotional, understanding. That is probably why I find Demian the hardest to forget.
I just love Hesse........Especialy Demian and......umm oh god I can't transalate this on on English.....stupid me
