hey, i want to quit my job, but having never quit a job before (just been laid off when work ran out, then been at this one for years), didn't know if a "two weeks notice" had to be in writing. It's just a stock position at a pet store, nothing professional or anything. Do I just tell the boss I'm quitting, or do I have to give him something in writing?

When I left my job, I gave a typed letter of "resignation" as well as a verbal. I gave the verbal first and then gave the actual typed document as formality.

But I'm sure a written notice would suffice.

Yes, definitely. You want to be able to use them as a good reference later on down the line!

you dont have to even go into a lot of detail.. just "on blah blah blah date i am giving my two weeks notice because of (new job, moving, school, whatever)"

and you dont even have to explain at all

    Something like

    To Whom it May Concern:

Please accept this as notice of my resignation effective (your last day). I truly appreciate the opportunities and experiences I have had here.

    Sincerely,

It's kind of surreal when people get good advice in RT....

Then I feel oh so sorry for you. Give it a while, and you'll see some advice that makes you pause, and go "WTF?"
