i love that town a lot! and i do really well in school and live in ny. but i heard teh shool is 70 percent female so..
You might want to start out at a community college, then. A lot of four year schools that are very easy to get into aren't very good. If you're going to spend that kind of money, you might as well try to get a good education. Hippie school can wait a couple of years, can't it?
University of Colorado in the "People's Republic of Boulder" definitely has its share of hippies, and everyone else for that matter. Boulder is an awesome town for hippy types to even visit for a couple days and then hit the wonderful back country of Colorado. Just a short drive from Boulder will get you to pristine wilderness areas. Unfortunately CU also has exorbitantly high out of state tuition.
ill tell ya, i go to the university of Kansas (KU Jayhawks) and theres a pretty good amount of hippy girls and guys walking around campus when im going to class. And plus, wakarusa fest is right in our backyard, and theres always killer concerts all around every week. Its a very liberal town here in lawrence which is nice cuz nobody gives a fuck about anything basically lol. But the city is packed full of students and theres hardly any old people all around town. Its a pretty cool place i bet if you actually did some research you might find it pretty interesting. And KU is a pretty prestigious school. Not ridiculous but hey its better than most. --I also agree with the previous poster about going to the U of Colorado to be a buffalo. Boulder is a kick ass place and i love the whole state of CO. (except denver....sorry lol) However, not being a native to CO i cannot say if there are lots of hippies are around there but i bet there are because they have nearly a dozen bluegrass fests in the state of CO alone during the summer. So that is also another cool place. Hope i helped, and have fun! peace
Its at Russell Square in Bloomsbury, just behind the British Museum. Let me know when you're over and Ill sign you in the students union Peace
i dont know, i feel like a lot of the schools people are mentioning are just full of typical college kids with a hippie side to them....most any small liberal arts school will have its share of weed smoking kids with beards playing frisbee. as far as really liberal, progressive, alternative "hippie" schools, i usually think of hampshire college in amherst, ma, reed college in portland, lewis and clark, evergreen state in washington, bard, sarah lawrence, and vassar in upstate new york. i know atleast a few of them have no core curriculum, no requirments, and no grades. you design your own major and take only classes you are specifially interested in. its a ton of work though, expect to write ALOT of papers.
Johnson State College in Vermont http://www.jsc.vsc.edu/ Lyndon State College in Vermont http://www.lsc.vsc.edu/ ---If I go back to college in the fall it will most likely be here.......I live 5 blocks from the campus, lol. SUNY Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh, NY http://www.plattsburgh.edu/ School for International Training in Brattleboro, VT http://www.sit.edu/ Note: this is a GRADUATE school, and in my humble opinion, probably one of the top 10 schools in the world, I myself aspire to go there someday. (ya I know i'm almost 25 already.......) I've heard alot of good things about NYU, but I have no personal experience so I won't comment. If anyone needs more info on schools in New England, let me know, I'm quite familiar with what the northeast has to offer. Also, Johnson State college is one of only 3 schools in the country to offer an accredited program in Outdoor leadership, and most of the schools in Vermont have killer Environmental programs. I know of more but that should get you started.
University of Vermont - I'd be going there next fall if I could afford it. UNC Ashville - Only visited the town for one evening but it seemed pretty chill. Oh, and Maharishi University. I think it's in Missouri.
An awesome school--if you are artistically inclined---is SCAD...Savannah College of Art and Design. A very diverse group is enrolled there and it is located in the very beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia. (Near my home, so I am biased.)
I'm gonna let you in on some little known knowledge. Vermont is the assistance capital of the country, lol, everything from welfare to college. If you RESIDE in Vermont for 12mos, you're eligible for VSAC- Vermont Student Assistance Corporation, it's a state run program that gurantee's ANY Vermonter can go to college, INCLUDING UVM, UVM also is much cheaper for in-state tuition. If you don't want to live here for the full 12months but you still want to go to UVM, then simply make a trip here and get a drivers license (you can use my address, or any of my friends/family)
Burlington (where UVM is located, also the ONLY city in the entire state) has 12 different schools, it's an awesome college town, very progressive/liberal/hippie atmosphere, good music, multicultural, beautiful town on the shores of Lake Champlain, outdoor markets, festivals, all kinds of things. Burlington is my favorite city on the east coast, it really is a world apart. --also, if you smoke pot, Vermont has some of the best Nuggets in the US.
I went to SUNY New Paltz, and it is a very, very hippie college. The town itself is filled with headshops and the like and the campus allows pot ralleys (disguised as marches against racism...haha). It's also a good school, especially for teaching and the arts and stuff. I enjoyed it a lot and the campus isn't so big that you get lost. The area is really beautiful as well, especially in the fall. So if you're from NY, check SUNY New Paltz out
I have no personal experience, but what does anyone know about Warren Wilson College in Ashville, North Carolina. It looks pretty perfect, but I can't say for sure because I haven't been there.
Warren Wilson is actually a school that I'll be applying to next year. I have a lot of friends there and I can assure you that it is a hippie school. The campus is so beautiful and Asheville is a very chill town with lots of record shops and things like that.
