hahaha i know this is my second bike related question in the space of 2 days and i know this is a really weird question to ask, but fuck it, im gonna ask anyways will sitting on a really hard, uncomfortable bike seat that makes my ass sore make my ass firmer??? ahahahaha. cuz i really hate sitting on it.. and was wondering if there will be any end result that might make it more bearable cuz if it hurt, but i knew i was gonna get somethin outta it in the end, it wouldnt hurt so bad ahahah.. what a weird question
A hard and uncomfortable seat is no good, and if it's actively sore just from sitting on it, i'd replace it. I saw some show once on tv about how old fashioned 'normal' bike seats put the all the pressure in the wrong places. You have 'sit-bones' on each side of your butt, which are meant to carry your weight when sitting, but bike seats by their nature put it between these and in the middle between your legs. For guys especially who are heavy cyclists this can cause brusing and inflammation of the prostate and all sorts of things. http://www.tesco-shopping.com/bikeseat.htm This type of thing looks much much better if you're doing lots of regular riding. Also you can get more normal shaped ones but with a wide surface area and silicone gel in it etcetc... But about 'benefits' haha.. Have you ever seen the butts on professional cyclists, or even those people in cities who go through traffic in spandex bike outfits etc..? I don't think i've ever seen even one, who DIDN'T have a very toned butt! You'll be able to crack peanuts in no time. haha..
I consider myself a bit of an expert on muscles and asses. The main muscle in your upper thighs and ass is gluteus maximus, and biking is a great way to build up ass muscle. However, the pain your feeling probably is the result of an uncomfortable seating position, and it's actually going to be the work of your upper thighs that going to help you tone your ass, not an uncomfortable seat. Do what spooner said and get a cushion. I'll be thinking about your ass for 'ya. Just kidding.
ahahahha and yeah.. it is really uncomfortable and being pretty skinny, i have almost no ass so it hurts even more! i might invest in a seat cushion when i get my paycheck. thanks for all the advice, you all seem to know your asses pretty well
Lodui's right (when isn't he?) seat cushion = heavenly goodness. My bike seat was all hard and blechy too, since it's, erm, 8 year old cheapass plasticy stuff that got left out in the rain and snow and crap. Got a bikeseat cover for like $20 and my ass is happy now
An article about women and bike seats: http://mountainbike.about.com/od/womensbikingguide/f/Womens_seats.htm There's some interesting looking anatomically-correct seats here: http://www.spiderflex.com/ http://www.airriderseats.com/ http://www.bycycleinc.com/ They're at the expensive custom-end of town though.
Those guys you posted didn't have much muscle on them. Not that theres anything wrong with being slender, I'm only 170 ish, but I'd prefer to pack on maybe ten more pounds. Glad you like pictures of shirtless guys though. Keep following that rainbow big guy.
