I've got about 4-6 hours to kill in Boston on July 26 while I wait for my ride to pick me up from the airport. know any must-see centrally located stops?
i'd say just go to Quincy Market for a few hours. you can do some shopping, food. do a little walk around downtown. your coming around when the DNC is starting so its gonna be really hectic around that area in downtown. but that's your only logical choice if you've never been around boston before. you could tour East Boston, which is a neighborhood of Boston, but there's a greater chance of a tourist getting lost if they don't know where there going. so i'd just stick with going into Quincy Market. The New Englan Aquarium is acoss the street from it. But from the airport to downtown, you wanna take the blue line (train) and take it to Aquarium stop or State St. stop and you'd be around places you could spend time. The State St. stop is closer to Dowtown Crossing, which is a major shopping area in downtown. any other questions you have, i'll try to answer.
Some of the shaded grassy knolls down in the Commons are nice to kick back and spark one up at. But like Fitzy21 said, Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall are the best shot for killing a few hours. Lots of restaurants, bars, and stores, to keep you occupied. Me and my girl like to go bar hoppin' down there on the weekends. My band plays down off of Lansdowne St and there are some great bars down there as well. Here's a link that will give you some ideas of what to do when you get to Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market.......: http://www.boston-online.com/cityviews/quincy_market.html
thanks gente, sound like great ideas... kinda wishing i could hook up w/ some the DNC events but i dont think i have that kind of time. i'll def try to check out the market though
ha, or maybe i should be glad i'm just stopping on my way to vermont, huh? i just went to that website (nice link, thanks!) and was reading about all the bostonians planning their vacations that week. not too excited about the DNC? i could understand that. my hometown has hosted several national events and it can get ridiculous... are you 2 or other locals you know planning to do anything convention-related?
i know a few people working security for the DNC. i was gonna apply for a internship with the DNC, but we were already planning a vacation since last summer. so, when the DNC came up and we saw all the road closings and how much highway there closing, we said were gonna get out of boston for the event. its to much of a hassle to get to and fro from work during that week. and i know plenty of people who are leaving. hey guy - the common is an awesome place to spark one up at. every time i go to a night time movie at the theatre there, we spark one up before the movie and then one after the movie as we walk through the park.
loved your city! i did the tourist thing and enjoyed myself plenty-- boat tour of the harbour, bus tour of the city, then fan. hall and quincy market where there the street performers entertained the crowd by getting grown men in the audience to skip around in pink tutus, very cute. my favorite attraction was shakespeare in the park- "much ado about nothing". i had to leave at intermission to catch my ride but the neighborhood around there was pretty and the show was funny... so it was a good time in boston, thanks for the hints! ..hope you survived the dnc
sounds like you had a good time in boston. i love the street performers, there really cool to watch and burn some time. i have heard great reviews of the shakespeare in the park series, maybe i can get down there for some of it. buy ya, glad ya had a good time while you were there. i wasn't here for the DNC, but i had a great time out in Ohio, though.
