Anyone ever seen it? It was originally an NBC TV movie, but they play it on VH1 sporadically.

I actually got it on dvd. Just for Jerry O'Connell.:&
But yeah, I kinda like it. I remember recording it when it came out on nbc. Its a bit long for me to sit through all the way though.

It's a great movie if you are into the sixties. I love it, the soundtrack is fantastic.

I saw the "60's"...and I LOVED IT! I recorded it when it first aired on TV, and then I ordered it on DVD, so I could have a better copy of it... ;) I have the "70's" on DVD too! I also think the music in both is awesome! I've been wanting to get the soundtracks, but haven't had the chance...

Have it but keep looking for time to watch it again. Thought it was interesting that they used a Catholic family and made reference to the "progressive Catholic" aspect to the war opposition, Fr. Berrigan and all that (I'm Catholic, so these were like home folks to me---also it was nice to see a script that could use that angle without exploiting or stereotyping it).

I like that it expressed the hopes as well as the frustrations that people had.

I loved it! I haven't seen The 70s yet, (though I had the soundtrack for a pretty long time but I think it fell under my bed or something) It's really great, I love how they do the black family/white family stories, and focus on all aspects of the 60s. I thought it was marvelously done, and American Dreams (which I also love, though its a bit cheesier) attempts to do the same thing (same network, too, they probably used the same costumes). Catch it when it's on TV. (I got it from the Library! Hawwwwwt!)

truthfully, I thought the movie was horrible. a very typical and predictable rendition of life in the 60s...... enough already.

Sure it was cliched and obvious, but any NBC tv movie that tried to pack an explosive decade into 3 hours or however long that miniseries would be. Yeah, just another movie using nostalgia for ratings, haha. It was cliche Like the girl getting pregnant, one brother going to war and coming back, Born On the Forth of July-styles, and the other brother getting into Dylan and becoming a student activist, there was no cliche unused, but I still liked it. (and the parents! stereotype city) I can't wait to see how by-the-book the 70s is. haha

You're absolutely right. The father was the typical conservative dad.

He constantly tried to keep Julia Stiles' character in-line everytime she did something wrong (ex. making out with a guy in a closet, dancing to "The Twist"), and he almost killed her when she got pregnant.

He constantly intimitated his other son, the anti-war protestor, for his beliefs.

And he constantly praised his other son for going to Vietnam.

But then at the end of the movie, he finally tries to be cool and reconcile by defending his son's opposition to the draft, and giving the daughter the peace sign. What a sad man.

And the mom was always there for everybody, no matter what. Like most moms are.

Aww, I didn't think people really knew about this film or to some, "the made-for-tv movie". I love this movie. When I found out about it I was so excited. I love anything that has to do with the 60s. I like the rest of everybody, recorded it. Of course it was a bit clique, but what do you expect. It was to provide an insight of those who haven't been there, and just for the new generation. I enjoyed it and I cried when the whole scenero of the ending of the first part, with Bob Dylan playing in the background. The soundtrack is amazing but so many more songs could be on there as well that was in the show. The 70s was alright, I recorded that as well, but just wasn't the same effect that the 60s movie had. Anyways, I got the 60s on DVD and just recently watched it while it was on lifetime and still enjoyed it. I'm glad that people liked it but I also understand people that didn't like it.. whatever works for you =)
