help!! butterfly with broken wings!

I just found a butterfly with broken wings. she has two little pieces left so she can't fly. i have her in paper cup. i made small holes so she can breathe. I just cant leave her outside, she will die, probably get steped on cause this is a very active area. should i give her something to eat??
please help!!!

 

maybe give her something sweet like fruit....watermelon or something.
check the net and find out if buttflies' wings grow back.....????? i wouldnt think so but if they do perhaps she can be nursed untill then, but otherwise i'd say unfortunatey she's in bad shape. if her wings wont grow back then there is pretty much nothing you can do except put her out of her misery and spare her a slow death. i dunno, maybe someone else has something better.....

 

Unfoturnately the butterfly will die. Its wings will not grow back, and it will not be able to mate. It may not even want to eat because it is in such bad shape.
Dont fear, death is not so horrible, especially for a being so close to nature. Give it a blessing or a prayer, and find a garden near by and put it on a leaf.
Perhaps the butterfly will be food for a hungry mother bird and chicks and the cycle will carry on.

 

How beautiful of you for caring so much that a butterfly can't fly. Don't ever change, we need more in the world like you.

thanx for the advice... well i took her home and placed her in a jar with some leaves and fruit... she seems ok... fluters her wings and moves around... i thought maybe i could buy some flowers and some mesh and make her a nice habitat so she can be comfortable before she goes. birds around were i live don't need to eat her believe me. my neighbor has chickens and enough food for the pigeons.
what if she already had her mate and is carying eggs?
if i leave her to get eaten all her babies will never get a chance to live... anyway... i think i'm doing the right thing

 

What about looking up how butterflies live and getting a small tank for her? I do not know anything about butterflies or I would help more. Thank you for being kind.

 

i think your idea is honorable but a butterfly is meant to fly. that is their life,flying from flower to flower. i cannot imagine that a butterfly would thrive in a tank. i think even if she does well for a little bit she will die anyway or at the least be unhappy.........unhappy in a butterfly kind of way whatever that is. i could be wrong tho as i truley know nothing about the inner life of butterflies. let us know how she does tho.

 

It could be a he. And butterflies are quite particular from species to species on what plant they lay their eggs on, and I do not think they would lay their eggs on a couple of leaves. They seem quite intelligent when it comes to their egg laying and spread the eggs around, even under the leaves. They know how to assess the health and general energy of plant as good nursery for their soon to be children.

butterflys can eat rotty bananas. that's what they're fed at the butterfly gardens, anyways.

 

Butterfly wings don't grow back. They only live an few days anyway. I have found many butterflies with torn wings. I don't believe insects have much for nerves so it probably doesn't feel much. The best thing would be to put it in a garden where it doesn't have much of a chance of being eaten and let it live out what's left of it's life.

 

well the little butterfly is still alive and seems to be doing well. i've created a habitat for her or him. I bought two large mesh bags used as laundry basquets , and placed one over the other. i dont know how to explain but she has alot of space... well i can't compare it to being outside, but she could not go far anyway. she was only in a jar for a couple of hours. i made a sugar blend for her/him, and i'm searching for a flower he/she can eat from.
i know there are mixed opinions but i don't judge anyone here so i expect the same.
