We also all drive SUVs and shop at Wal-Mart. Hell, I don't even want to talk to myself because I'm not from the UK.
Oh, I see. So because of the American stereotypes that plague these forums, it is wrong to say anything even remotely critical about the inhabitants of other countries for appearing like elitists. So how come only the Brits get to have their own forums and avoid us disgustingly obese, SUV driving, burger-munching, slurpie-sucking Americans? Surely the French and the Germans are deserving of their own forums as well. It's only fair.
and I can't stand to hear that wretched cali accent, especially with my ears that aren't from the uk The rolling stones were cool though, that band the darkness kind of sucks
well trish, I hope you know that you would be threatening the very stabilty of the forums I'm afraid I'm being pulled back into manhattan to burn more money....god bless something my later posts are sure to be incoherent, but it will be more intelligible than that cockney jargon.
I've always wanted to be an elitist so I think that I am going to pretend that I am from the UK from now on.
ehhummm I have a strong california accent and I haven't had any complaints. Britain is part of europe. Britain is part of the European Union for gods sake!!!!!!!! So what are you talking about seamonster??? dhs-you are drving me crazy you need to come out here and hear my accent through various vocal sexual excitments.
Cultural differences would be my guess. There is something about being English that can only be had by an Englishman. As Americans we inevitably wonder why they have such a superiority complex. To find out, all you have to do is compare cultures. Look at the differences between American culture and British culture. Look at the difference between American culture and French or German or Italian culture and it is clear as day that America is the odd one out. Americans are a funny bunch. It is a funny culture. In that there is no real culture. Culture begins with education. I don’t mean learning math. I mean learning based on the critical and traditional thought of generations past spanning centuries and lifetimes. The French are educated by Descartes and Pascal, the English by Shakespeare, the Germans by Goethe, and the Italians by Machiavelli and Dante. An Englishman is a creature of sentiment informed by literary tradition and an American is a man of rational principles. This is not to say that writers do not elaborate these principles. But the principles of an American are easily recognizable and simply understood. The reciprocal recognition of rights. This recognition doesn’t take training, there is no need for centuries of philosophy, and does not abstract different national character. It is possible to become American in a day. It is impossible to become a Frenchman if you weren’t born one. It is an American trait to wonder why they don’t to expand past their borders of English thought. It is a trait that is exclusive to American culture. I would say that the moderators of this site have an uncanny understanding of cultural history or have just found that having a U.K. only forum brings in more hits to the site.
Wow, they do have their own forum! I feel left out for some reason. I have nothing against them, tho'.
Several French people have told me that the English stick together, and look upon everyone else as outsiders. From my observations this is at least partly true.
