http://www.ksdk.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=96243 Schools should NOT be allowed to discipline students for posting mean things on facebook. That is wayyyyy beyond their authority.
Cutting to the Chase Scene... Is it your position the * has the Rights/ Duties to function as Thought police (ok... cops/ judge/ jury/ executioner) on a 24/7 basis w/ no jurisdictional limitations? * school in this Thread Many other orgs could be used instead...
if that person violated my rights, i would sue them for slander. I, however, do not believe that my rights are violated if someone calls me ugly. That's just life. Life is not as sugary as you may want it to be. That's scary...you are basically advocating a police state. Anything on school property or at a school sponsored event is fair game...that means football games, dances etc. If 4 guys get in a fight at the local mcdonalds(not on school property), it then becomes a legal issue and the cops would be involved. However, calling someone names is far different then one of physical violence. A person has no right to plan to bomb a school. Their student information is used? How so? What does that have to do with students posting a list of who is hot or not? What you quoted is a clear misinterpretation of tinker...what on gods earth makes them believe that law extends out of school? Where does school authority end? The school should not be omnipresent! What does them viewing it at school have to do with anything? I know at my school, we were not allowed to access any websites that were not school related. If kids saw this list during school, most likely they were doing so without the schools permission. If the kids viewed it during school hours, they were breaking school policy. You have missed the point. The school should have no authority when it happens outside of school limits/hours/school sponsored events. The ONLY time they should be allowed to suspend/expel a person is if they show that they are a danger to students...i.e. threatening to bomb or kill students. That is entirely different then calling girls ugly or pretty. And if calling a person pretty or ugly is sexual harassment, god help us all. Now i have a question for you aside. Do you believe schools should be able to suspend/expel students who are openly racist, homophobic, intolerant of whatever OUTSIDE of school?
You are again missing the difference between school property and non school property. School bus? School property. Field trip? School property for duration of trip School dances? school property The internet accessed from your house? NOT SCHOOL PROPERTY. Again, i said they have the right IF there is reason to believe they are dangerous to other students....firebombing the principals house is reasonable suspicion.. I disagree. It is a legal issue and the cops should be involved, not the school. publically affiliated school network? If it is done outside of school/school sponsored events...like this was, then NO it is NOT the authority of the school to deal with this. You are trying to make this sound so much worse than it is. You can't compare this to bombing or threatening to kill people. You can't compare it to ANY illegal act. A bunch of guys said some girls were ugly. They did this outside of school. Was it the nice thing to do? Heck no. Are they jerks? Sure are. But the school should have NO authority over this. The girls need to get over it and the guys need to grow the fuck up. Oh, and the school should butt the hell out. Let parents take care of this. We do not need to go around suspending everyone and ruining the futures of people for something like this. Do you really want to ruin the future of these students because they called some girls ugly when they were 14-18 years old?
Though your brother's bound and gagged And they've chained him to a chair Won't you please come to Chicago Just to sing In a land that's known as freedom How can such a thing be fair Won't you please come to Chicago For the help we can bring We can change the world - Rearrange the world It's dying - to get better Politicians sit yourself down, There's nothing for you here Won't you please come to Chicago For a ride Don't ask Jack to help you Cause he'll turn the other ear Won't you please come to Chicago Or else join the other side We can change the world - Rearrange the world It's dying - if you believe in justice It's dying - and if you believe in freedom It's dying - let a man live it's own life It's dying - rules and regulations, who needs them Open up the door Somehow people must be free I hope the day comes soon Won't you please come to Chicago Show your face From the bottom to the ocean To the mountains of the moon Won't you please come to Chicago No one else can take your place We can change the world - Rearrange the world It's dying - if you believe in justice It's dying - and if you believe in freedom It's dying - let a man live it's own life It's dying - rules and regulations, who needs them Open up the door We can change the world
Yall talk too much. I find the number of Folks that can't/ won't answer simple/ straight forward/ no frills questions similar to the one presented in Post #5 rather alarming.
So much for freedom of speech, obviously it can be seen as alright if it's something violent, but really, that's still a matter for the law. And this same thing(well, in a way) happened in my town when I was in 9th or 10th grade, someone made a website where people could anonymously post what they really thought about other kids in school(small high school too, about 700 kids for all 4 grades, so everyone knew basically everyone) and there were no threats or anything really terrible on it, just everyone saying what they really thought of people. The 2 kids that made the website got 10 days suspension and the site disappeared. School systems, stifling free speech since 1984.
It's dying - if you believe in justice It's dying - and if you believe in freedom It's dying - let a man live it's own life It's dying - rules and regulations, who needs them Open up the door We can change the world
Do you have a different link than the one in Post #1? http://www.ksdk.com/news/news_artic...x?storyid=96243 If not please correct the following quote from the link. Did I miss something which was written in invisible ink?
Why? How is a "a list of "who's hot and who's not"" sexual harassment? Are the HF Awards Threads for who's the hottest whatever also sexual harassment? Geesh...
Suspension looks bad for people who are applying to college. It can affect scholarships and even admittance into a university. Often when you are suspended from school, you are also suspended from participating in athletics. of course it hurts these kids.
