i have been hearing voices for over a year. i usually hear them at night and once or twice a month. but last week i heard a voice saying that i am going to die on new years. i have been trying to think that possible the word die is a metaphor for something else but cant come up with anything. any feedback would be appericated?

It's no big deal. Voices say lots of things. I think people put too much faith in bodyless voices because they think everything on other planes is omniscient and honest. The "don't believe everything you hear" rule applies to the voices in your head as well as those you hear every day coming out of other peoples mouths.

This happened to a good friend of mine, he heard voices, and wouldn't talk to anyone about it because he was getting himself fucked up on so many drugs, like everything he could get his hands on. The voices became stronger and stronger and he ended up listening to what they told him. He had a visit from a psychiatrist and turned the help down. Then about four months later he was locked up in a mental hospital with schizophrenia. It destroyed his soul to be locked up, drove away his friends and his girlfriend and pretty much fucked up his ability to get a decent job.
He is better now, but it took around 3 or 4 years before he got back to his usual self. Even now he has problems with paranoia and self esteem.
If he had got help earlier it would have avoided the problem - he would have spent his late teenage years happy, if somewhat subdued, he would have been able to confront his drug problem and also nip the mental health problem in the bud.

Mind you some of the things he said were kinda psychic and you probably wont believe this, but it is true and I wish I had kept some of the things he wrote down. This was about 1997 and he was talking about how there was gonna be another Iraq war, that the flash point for this (and he pointed at a map at random for this) would be Afghanistan, he would have hallucinations about having to help people off of a bus in London and also about a plane crashing into a huge tower block. Mind you he also hallucinated a lot about cats, especially endangered ones like tigers, saying that he could help repopulate the species by giving male cats some sorta viagra and putting female cats in the mood with the right music. That and about winning the lottery. Still waiting for the lottery bit.

^ thats pretty crazy. But to the thread starter, i'd see a doctor or something, if you have schizophrenia, the sooner you treat it the better.

Everybody has alot of different ideas about voices. Mine is that you may just be hearing a ghost or Spirit. I even hear them call out my name every now and then, I even know (or have a fair idea) of who was calling it out. I think its perhaps a spirit or more trying to get your attention. Perhaps even a guardian.
    Maybe try asking them?

You should definitely see a shrink just in case. I have an uncle who is schizophrenic as a result of alcohol abuse in the past and whenever he is alone, he hears voices telling him that he is being followed and is going to be killed. I usually don't like sharing things like this, but it's a case in point. You should definitely see a shrink. Schizophrenia can be treated in the earlier stages so waste no time.

this is third-hand information, so i suggest you check into it yourself, but from what i've heard, schizophrenics share the same brainwave patterns as people in deep meditation. it could be that they are just tapped into something they don't have anything to compare against, with noone around them who are tapped into the same thing. that alone can make you go crazy, not to mention that when delving into those depths, there are probably plenty of dangers to your psyche along the way. so, even if it isn't a disease, you should treat this situation with the respect it deserves. as far as medication, though, if you need drugs to live your life you might as well die on new years eve. don't trust psychiatrists with your mental well-being. they learn from textbooks written be people taking random shots down a dark hallway.

One way to look at it, the word die may be referring to the person you are now. The person you will be on New Years is the person you grow into becoming. Right now you are you, by New Years you will be you with 158 more days of experience. Over those days you generally will change as people change with more experience. Metaphors are a frown waiting to turn bright side up. There are always many ways of looking at a thought, a situation, a moment. One has to consider all the possibilities. Was the thought complete? What came before it? What about after it. Thoughts that are left incomplete sound nothing like when they are complete. Try to find out more a bit more information.

Never allow yourself to forget to question what you hear. If your going to put your trust in someone, try putting the trust in yourself. Putting trust in a untrusting voice can put you and others in danger. Be aware of what you hear, but don’t let it get to the point where you follow it blindly.

Watch yourself. Try to maintain control in your reality. If the voice you hear is internal, remind it that it is in your head, in your head, you should be the one that controls you. If the voice is external that shows you that it wants to maintain distance. If you feel like you are no longer in control of yourself, don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you are receiving help, make sure it makes you feel better rather then worst. What good is help if it makes you feel worse. Stay strong and be well. Peace out~

If you or anyone else on this forum needs to talk to someone, feel free to message me.

I have experiences of voices too.

The first time I was doing something and suddenly it was if I'd been transported somewhere else. I wasn't aware of anything except two voices having a conversation between themselves. It sounded like a boy and his mother but I can't remember what they were saying. I think it was just normal stuff, the mother saying something like "Put that down for a minute..." to the little boy.

The second time I remember sitting at the computer and the same feeling of as if I had been suddenly been transported somewhere else. The voices were talking amoungst themselves again except this time the mother, father and little boy were all there. I don't remember what they were saying once again.

It happened about half a year ago... I don't do drugs before anyone asks! lol I wasn't going through depression or anything either. I'd count myself as a pretty happy well adjusted person as far as people go really but anyways that was my experience.

yeah.....my friend staying with me 4 a while remarked it is like someone is standing there watching him......I dunno I kinda got used to that feeling out here in the middle of this country, not a city. I just heard part of someone elses thought in words....."don't worry"..... see that fits the thought I'm writing about like the outside brainwaves are like talking to me....but it isn't meant for me cuz I mentioned I am used to it and it doesn't bother me....although I agree with my freind ....it is a shitty deal.

One can only guess at why the mass of humanities brainwaves seem to be short circuited and the sensitive ones get to be called scheizo.;)

Society fears the unknown greatly. The brain is still very unknown even without voices. :Sigh:

If you see a shrink he'll ask you what the voices say and give you some medication which will help you.

Schizophrenia, if thats what you have, all it is, is a chemical imbalance in the brain. Medication balances the chemical in your brain.

It may be why you're hearing voices. I don't know you'll have to see a professional.

You should get help for that. Good luck! take care!
