Always a good idea. The problem with multiple growsites is -ideal spot are difficult to locate and often difficult to reach -it takes a lot more time to service multiple sites. HOWEVER In goes a long way to insure you get bud. Farming is ALWAYS an iffy venture. Bad storms/tornado's/hurricanes/drought/bug infestation/herbivore predation can all cause you to loose a garden. But the biggest heartbreaker is finding out that someone has stolen your stuff. Prob. a total of 10 times in my 40 years of gardening I've had outdoor gardens ripped off. After 7 months of growing, a hundred $$ worth of gas, a hundred hours of hiking, taking care and actually getting to know each individual plant, all gone because of scumk of the earth rippers. It's enough to practically make a grown man cry. After the 2nd time this happened to me I started splitting my grows. Instead of say a large area with 50 plants, I'd do 3 small area's of 15 or so plants each. Ever since, even if 1 patch gets ripped, I still harvest pot. If you have multiple gardens, make sure they're far apart. If someone finds one they're gonna search and search and search for another.
