You say that like ignorance wasn't around in the 60's... or the Old World to be more correct.

    Hi

I sympathise with this. I am a 'young' hippie (27) and I totally know what you mean. Most people I meet (not all) are more interested in doing drugs. They seem to take this part of the hippie lifestyle and say they are hippies.

Most of these people go to mcdonalds, burger king etc. Most people I know think that taking drugs makes them a more spiritual person. I say that drugs will only make you more spiritual if you are that way inclined anyway. I know people who have taken drugs for years and they are not spiritual at all (not to say a person can't be).

Also, I think a lot of these people would maybe get more involved with causes etc, but they want someone else to organise and arrange it all, drive to their house, pick them up, take them, feed them, and bring them home. They have no motivation to do it themselves. A lack of self empowerment I would say.

    peace.

None of the young people are hippies. Most of them love rap and metul and can be just as assy and bitchy as ppl at my college. Its a shame.

its because young people arnt doing it for the same reason people were back then. if a 15 year old now acts like a hippie it's just cause he thinks it's cool to act like a hippie thats how 15 year olds are. there gonna try and be exactly like people were in the 60's and talk like them and try to look like them but it's not real for the most part. trying to be a hippie now a days is stupid, i'm not saying hippies are, just young people trying to act like people did back then is. just be urself, i'd much rather talk to an outcast type who is a punk or a weird artist type or anything then some kid trying to be all 60's. it's 2006 think of something new to do dont try and relive the past.

dear - THUDLY.. I know how to spell. I just choose not to do so in less formal "media" like forums or irc.

I would allso like to point out that i am not from states so you dont pay my taxes. We may allso conclude that my native language isnt english. Though i think i can speak proper british english usualy.

yeah well being a hippy's not about drugs (daah), but many ppl use drugs and become facinated to diffirent ways of thinking though drugs especialy marijuana.

I didnt say ignorance wasnt strengh in the 60s but i am very sad that even more in nowadays when we have the technology such as internet wich enables us to cover most goverment lies more easily ppl purpously choose not to do this. allso if you go and tell them about them many purpously ignore the message because they dont want to know. Because they think it doesnt touch them.

Furball-- my comments weren't directed at you. I applaud your mastery of the English-American language-- it is not an easy language to master. But, it's sad, don't you think, that native Americans butcher their own tongue AND THEN TYPE IT ON THE WORLD-WIDE WEB SO THEIR IGNORANCE OR LAZINESS IS BROADCAST ACROSS THE GLOBE?

Even though I'm just an anonymous screen-name, I prefer to be considered an intelligent one.

Granted, there are a lot of mean-spirited posts here. If you look around, you CAN find some intelligent conversation. I've noticed that some of the younger crowd can be hip when they really think about why we're all here.

funny how people try to define what a hippie should be ..........there was no definition set in stone ........not vegeterians ..not druggies ...not demonstrations .........just about the only common denominator that i saw during the era was love and music

I have alwys defied labels. Hippy fits kinda. Once a label is applied---then people can say---"if you were this then you wouldn't that..." Young Hippies? What are they?

WOOOHOOO! Someone finally said it all! Hippies weren't hippies to impress anybody. It was not about being stoned. It was not about being loud. It was about PEACE. It was about LOVE. It was about good tunes. It was about just being.

    "Nice catch" Tuatara!

but i still can understand why some people are expecting to find people that are more consious about the world overhere. mabey the young hippie forum totally changed into a section to play around but other parts of this forum are still used for awareness, go look overthere

only one message to the starter of this thread: be the change and i would love to join you

I feel your point. However, the concern of some of us, is that the voice of young people that actually have something meaningful to so say, is being drowned out by the ones that just want to "play around" (your words) Even in the "other parts" that you mention, this is becoming the norm. It's like a virus. Despite the fact that there are lots of awesome "young hippies" that post truly inspired stuff, there are those that still have no clue.
Just like the "starter of this thread", I'm trying to be part of the change. If you really want to be a part, why do say, "go look over there"? Please don't say that you'd like to be part of the solution, and then condemn me for trying. I've read your posts in other threads..you usually say intelligent things. What gives? I've done nothing but try to be helpful. Why don't you .. "go over there"! By the way, this isn't the young hippies forum area that you speak of, it is the old hippies forum area.

To the others on this thread..my apologies if I've been rude here. This guy comes in and tells me to take a hike, and all I was doing was trying to say something nice to tuatara
