Bush calls terror fight WWIII From: Agence France-Presse From correspondents in Washington May 06, 2006 US President George W. Bush has said the September 11 revolt of passengers against their hijackers on board Flight 93 had struck the first blow of "World War III". In an interview with the financial news network CNBC, Mr Bush said he had yet to see the recently released film of the uprising, a dramatic portrayal of events on the United Airlines plane before it crashed in a Pennsylvania field. But he said he agreed with the description of David Beamer, whose son Todd died in the crash, who in a Wall Street Journal commentary last month called it "our first successful counter-attack in our homeland in this new global war, World War III". Mr Bush said: "I believe that. I believe that it was the first counter-attack to World War III. "It was, it was unbelievably heroic of those folks on the airplane to recognize the danger and save lives," he said. Flight 93 crashed on the morning of September 11, 2001, killing the 33 passengers, seven crew members and four hijackers, after passengers stormed the cockpit and battled the hijackers for control of the aircraft. The president has repeatedly praised the heroism of the passengers in fighting back and so launching the first blow of what he usually calls the "war on terror". In 2002, then-White House spokesman Ari Fleischer explicitly declined to call the hunt for Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda group and its followers "World War III". If you have to take sides where will you be ?
Half-hippie...do you mean take national sides in the confict, or agree/disagree that WWIII has begun? If you mean taking national sides, that's a very loaded question.
I don't know if you can necessarily call this WWIII, just because the sequential order doesn't make much sense. I mean, if it's a fight on the order of the people of the world, vs. the rulers of the world, it's been going on for quite a while now, and is maybe one of the longest continually-fought conflicts in human history, ranking right up there with the whole Man-vs.-God type deal. Regardless, I am and always will be (if not necessarily physically alongside, at least coming from the same spiritual/ moral class as those) on the side fighting AGAINST the fascist world-domination, oppressive bullshit-regime (in this case the oppressors would be the U.S. mutilation-machine, obviously). So, uh- hooray for everybody else?
Hare Krishna ! Please calm down and don't ever think of any more war. Regimes never suffer,we do. The thought of war should be treated as a bad dream and should never be nurtured in anybody's mind. We should by all means(Except war) oppose to any such idea in any part of the world. One war today will ensure suffering for 100 years !
All I can say is yes - let's forget this war bullshit! However, that said, I think only an idiot of some magnitude would equate the folks who flew those planes on 9/11 and what they represent with 'the people' or some outmoded notion of 'the people's struggle' - I don't like many aspects of American culture, and I like a lot of US foriegn policies over the years even less, but I'd rather live under the American system any day than under fundamentalist/militant 'Islam' (I use inverted commas so as not to confuse these people with ordinary Muslims). The US constitution enshrines freedom of religion, doesn't it? I think you'd be unlikely to find any such principle in the case of fundamentalist Islam. 9/11 was a crime against humanity. And a crime against any chance of the harmonious future most of us say we want to see. The US reaction has not helped though in my view. America's idea of world dominance can never work, and with the rapid rise of China as a new super-power becomes ever more remote. History is moving very fast these days.
::nods:: I agree with both Gdkumar and BBB.... ...war is an awful thing...and let's try and prevent another big one from happening.... its a very scary thing ... I'm not gonna lie, it freaks me out a bit....
I would deffinitely equate it with the people's struggle. What the constitution guarantees doesn't mean anything anymore; just saturday night I was talking with my father, and on his way home the train was stopped and swamped with crazy fundamentalist/militant 'freedom' police waving loaded M16s at every man, woman and child onboard, just to get their jollies. They finally decided to take an old, senile man. May Allah(swt) protect that man, because you know what they're going to do to him. Also, how many of us here are on the 'terrorist watch-list'? You say the constitution protects us? In the past few months I have lived the extremes of this country- from the Redneck Bumf**kvilles, to the Hippie Havens, and travelled every which way between them, and let me tell you- in the majourity of this country, you have no protection of your 'rights' from the wrath of your countrymen at all, the police being the LEAST likely people in the world to protect them. There have been so many 'human-rights abuses' WITHIN this country's borders, what can you imagine the military (VOLUNTEER MILITARY, meaning they sign up to say 'please give me a gun and let me blow people's heads off.') is doing OUTSIDE the border? Anyone who fights against a country like this is worthy of untold respect. That's just my opinion... Don't we have some responsibility to protect the people of the world from a government like this? And those pilots were very brave...
Generals gathered in their masses just like witches at black masses evil minds that plot destruction sorcerers of death's construction in the fields the bodies burning as the war machine keeps turning death and hatred to mankind poisoning their brainwashed minds... Oh lord yeah! Politicians hide themselves away they only started the war Why should they go out to fight? They leave that role to the poor Time will tell on their power minds Making war just for fun Treating people just like pawns in chess Wait 'till their judgement day comes, yeah! Now in darkness, world stops turning Ashes where the bodies burning No more war pigs of the power Hand of god has struck the hour Day of judgement, god is calling on their knees, the war pigs crawling Begging mercy for their sins Satan, laughing, spreads his wings Oh Lord yeah! ..
Revolution in their minds - the children start to march Against the world they have to live in Oh! the hate that's in their hearts They're tired of being pushed around and told just what to do They'll fight the world until they've won and love comes flowing through Children of tomorrow live in the tears that fall today Will the sunrise of tomorrow bring in peace in any way Must the world live in the shadow of atomic fear Can they win the fight for peace or will they disappear? So you children of the world listen to what say If you want a better place to live in spread the world today Show the world that love is still alive you must be brave Or your children of today are children of the grave
The pilots were brainwashed morons of the very worst type. Anyway, I'm sure you'd prefer to have something like the Saudi 'religious police' protecting you.
"Zombie" Another head hangs lowly, Child is slowly taken. And the violence caused such silence, Who are we mistaken? But you see, it's not me, it's not my family. In your head, in your head they are fighting, With their tanks and their bombs, And their bombs and their guns. In your head, in your head, they are crying... In your head, in your head, Zombie, zombie, zombie, Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head, In your head, Zombie, zombie, zombie? Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou... Another mother's breakin', Heart is taking over. When the vi'lence causes silence, We must be mistaken. It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen. In your head, in your head they're still fighting, With their tanks and their bombs, And their bombs and their guns. In your head, in your head, they are dying... In your head, in your head, Zombie, zombie, zombie, Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head, In your head, Zombie, zombie, zombie? Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, oh, oh, Oh, oh, oh, oh, hey, oh, ya, ya-a...
Phrensied...I see that you are a resident of the USA, enjoying all the protections the Constitution gives for freedom of speech and religion. If you were in Iran right now and making similar public statements about the regime in power, my guess is that you would be under surveillance and possibly headed for a torture chamber and an unmarked grave in the desert. The pilots of those planes were deranged and brainwashed maniacs, with no idea of any spiritual reality...there is no defense for what they did. My friendly suggestion...emigrate to an Islamic country and live there, if the USA is so disagreeable to you.
Freedom of speech? Hell, I got put in jail for exercising my 'right' to freedom of speech. When people complain about the problems this country has, they get told to move somewhere else-the 'love it or leave it' mentality. Me, I don't want to emigrate to an Islamic country, and don't see those places as paradise. But a lot of the things this country is doing to its own citizens and those of other countries is inexcusable, and those problems aren't going to go away by telling people to move somewhere else.
Hare Krishna ! "The pilots of those planes were deranged and brainwashed maniacs, with no idea of any spiritual reality...there is no defense for what they did." ......From spook13 Absolutely no doubt about that. Mindless and misguided people. If that was a design of protest and war for whatsoever reasons, we know what it had invited. Hatred can bring only total devastation. Still there is time but who is going to pay any heed to anybody! We are all educated and some are highly learned but we cannot even think in a healthy manner ! May God save us.
Hare Krishna ! No place or country is perfect on this earth. Even my own house is not perfect and all the things and happenings are not to the best of my liking. Does that mean that I should ruin my own house or I should allow others (Outsiders) to break into my house to put things right ?
Phrensied and DQ Veg...no hostility intended here. However, Phrensied's characterization of the 911 hijackers as "brave" suggests lots of hostile feelings to me. I'm just pointing out facts. No place on earth is perfect, but I'd sure rather be here than a good many of them. Yes, the USA is an uptight place compared to what it was ten years ago...but then I lived through the 1960's here, which were very uptight, if you want to know. The suggestion to move on was sincere...if you feel negatively enough about life in the USA to publicly praise those who engaged in a major and unprovoked attack on this country, you probably would be happier elsewhere. Well said, Dilip. ...and now, spook13, signing off this thread.
That makes no sense at all. Yeah, why don't you go tell George Washington to move somewhere else. That helps everybody, eh? I'm sure it hurts you so much to see somebody who isn't exactly like you. I'm oh so very hostile and threatening to your way of life. And they were very brave, and fought for a good and righteous cause. The same cannot be said of any U.S. soldier in even YOUR lifetime. Grouve on... ~Kharmi
The ones who are 'brave' are those who live their allotted span of years and try to develop themselves and help others. Those who have been brainwashed into believing that their own suicide will get them into some imaginary heaven, with seventy-two virgins etc, are cowardly and very, very stupid. It is easy to say 'oh -it's all too much for me - I want out' and in the process to kill thousands of other beings with whom one has no direct quarrel and who one doesn't know (including, don't forget, fellow Muslims), and precipitate at least two wars in the process. These idiots were cowards, who represent fanaticism and hate. Ignorant and gulible fools. Anyway - like Spook, that's me signing off this thread.
