I recently bought this book called "Old Souls" by Tom Shroder. Basically it delves into the idea of reincarnation by way of small children who spontaneiously speak of previous lives. They beg to be taken "home", pine for mothers and husbands from another life, and know things that there seems to be no normal way for them to know, otherwise. Some from the age of two or three years old. Even some kids talking in foreign tongues at that age. I always believed in reincarnation anyway, but I think this makes me an even deeper believer in it. So my question to you is, do you believe in reincarnation? Why or why not?
of course i used to always want to go home, even while at home, as a child. i get that feeling sometimes still.
So how do you explain some of these things small children, just able to talk, know? Like an Indian child knowing Japanese? Or a little girl asking out for a man she's never met and knew the address in which he lived?
Yea, I agree-however, the concepts that dancer annie brings up are interesting, and I've thought about this before. I've only had one child, and my ex-wife vamoosed with him when he was 2 1/2-it was fascinating to watch him grow up and learn things-and to also express things that he really hadn't learned or been exposed to-I've never really been around that many kids, but one thing I told my ex-wife was that I was convinced that some children (I was referring to something our son said that he couldn't possibly have learned naturally) have what in classical philosophy we would call "infused knowledge"-in other words, knowledge that comes into their minds through means other than the senses or natural means-I mean, he would occasionally talk about things that there was no way that he had learned or been exposed to. I don't have the answer to it, but it certainly is an interesting question.
Yeah I think he was on Montel Williams or something. It was pretty convincing. This book has a lot of those kinds of stories in them that just makes it really hard NOT to believe.
previous lives are bullshit. ask them anything specific to the period that only a historian would know, and they get it wrong.
"Do you believe in reincarnation?" To answer your question: No, I don't believe in that. Besides, I don't like the "philosophy" behind the concept of reincarnation especially in buddhism, since it victimizes handicapped people (mentally, socially etc.). The idea is that if you're born into a underprivileged family, you must have fucked up in your previous life before, because otherwise you would be doing better now. Bad Karma or something like that. This cycle continues until you better yourself and take the next step to enlightenment and finally reach nirvana.
No. I'm not Buddhist. Do I believe in certain things Buddhists believe, yes. Do I believe in things Judaism believes in, yes. Do I believe things that Christianity believe in, yes. I don't perscribe to any religion. I just think that some of these stories are so overwhelming and a huge coincidence if it's NOT reincarnation...that I feel like I almost have to believe it...after a lot of these stories I've read and some of the research I've done on my own. Cerridwen, when I said "other" I was thinking that people might think it depended on something or that they weren't sure, or they believe in some kind of form of reincarnation.
