"A-camp", rainbows biggest mistake.

so many people hate hippies and its all because of the drunks at A-camp. Any thoughts?

 

most people who hate hippies do not go to gatherings .....so how will they run into the drunks at a-camp?

I dunno maybe I'm over analyizing as most first posters usually say something like Hey glad to be here or something... I dunno I'll step out on a ledge and say what I think about A-camp


Ya its scary a little bit, and ya I do believe when newcomers arrive and the first thing they see is a bunch of drunk idiots yelling and what not along side the parking lot... most of these people have drank themselves to the bottom and now are digging deeper. most need help. now I might be a hippocrate as I'm known to drink beer as well but I dont know how to explain the bad vibes I get from a-camp.. I tell you what if I was female I would not want to walk through their camp by myself late at night... This is a hard one to talk about, they are kinda like the rainbow problem child that no one wants to talk about as long as they stay in the parking lot... how else do you say it? Ya we love them but no we dont want them in the middle of the gathering drinking..... I'm doing a sucky job at explaining this one as it is touchy but if I had to rank all the camps at rainbow this one with out a doubt will always come in last....

Yeh its in front...I spent my first night there...awaiting to get into bus village.
But ya know ....its like a 'filter'

It has been said more than once "All camps at the gathering serve a purpose". Where this may not be true, it is obviously true of a-camp. Many folks are mistaken about it's purpose, which makes sense because a-camps tru purpose is intentionally hidden,though it's true purpose is no mystery to the close observer.
The purpose of a-camp is to bring meat, alchohol and hard drugs to folks who want to be known as high and holy, but still want occaisional doses of those things without being stigmatized as supporting those things.

No really. The reason a-camp is there is because the rainbow has no method of enforcement. It makes no difference what is said, because there is no method of enforcement.
A-camp is there because the parking lot is closest to their addictions. In truth the feds have every reason to shut them down, or regulate them, but instead the feds spend their time giving the gathering a hard time and a bad name. The feds do this on purpose, because they hate freedom.
The feds could easily ticket and corral dogs with no collars or ID, clear the road of drunks standing in the way, and insist that the rainbows man and moniter the front gate. The feds could easily pick out some drunk troublemakers and run their warrents(and they would have warrents), and take said troublemakers to jail, but they dont.
I am not saying that a-camp should be shut down, but it could very easily be cleaned up by the feds in no time.

Alternatively, the high holies (the real ones not the posers) could easily clean up a-camp in no time, but they can't, 'cause if anybody gets caught being too shiney at the front gate they will be targeted by the feds as a leader.
This is the favorite strategy of The Enemy. To divide us and pit us against eachother. For the The Enemy to face the high and holy does not work very well for them. The high holy looks good, and the cop looks bad. For the The Enemy to pit us against eachother is easy, and we all look bad, while exausting our magic against eachother.

 

what a cool way to describe A-camp!

A-camp folks are Family too; and having them at front gate is far from a mistake. Yes, most of those folks could use some healing, but the old A-camp crew are hard working folks; they do much of the base work that makes a Gathering happen. we'd like to know how many of those opposed to A-camp have been involved in scouting and seed camp. If not for A-camp, the Family would have been run over by leos a long time ago. A-camp keeps the leos busy; they filter out the townies who would otherwise bring alcohol in the Church, along with their townie-drunk energy which is often much less kind than the A-camp vibe; A-camp is needed, loved & respected by many who've been fully involved in Rainbow.

 

I have to sa that calling people A-Campers or High Holy seperates us. Sure, there are people who stay and pepetuate A-Camp----it's a problem we have had a long time---humanity as well as rainbow.

No one can do anything about it! Are you crazy? It would have been done long ago if that were possible. The people who hang at A-Camp are slaves to their addiction, sure the law can round some of them up, but they are a headache to law enforcement too! As for the "High Holys" having the ability to do something about it----right, sure.

Who are these people you call "High Holys"? That is a name that seperates.

We are one.

Everyone lives out a purpose- at a gathering as in real life.---Just like every part of out body has a purpose(except maybe our appendix). Not all parts of our bodies are pleasant---what about our assholes? But there again is a vital purpose. And to seperate our brains from the rest of our bodies is nuts too.

Along with the body part analogy---what happens if we cut off an arm? a finger?

Wwe have to love eachother as we do ourselves.

 

You say that if i recognize that some folks lead exemplary lives, and refer to them by their habits of being high and holy that "-i-" have caused the seperation?
Or that by repeating a nomer that i have heard before 10,000 times or more out of the mouths of the people who were sitting next to a keg under a cardbord sign scrawled with a drunk sharpie on a beer box that says "A-CAMP" that "-i-" caused the seperation?

I don't know where you got the reference to castration or decapitaion. I didn't mean to be so extreme. Perhaps if i apologise to you in public you will quite calling me a seperator?

I do not even write high holies in capitals. I have met some very exceptionally nice and sweet people, and they inspire me, and part of that is what i percieve as a spiritual connection.

Perhaps this year in colorado you and i will get a chance to work together. I will be at the welcome home camp. My name is rasta' patch and i am not hard to find. It would be fun to go to a-camp or front gate with you, or to meet some high and holy folks on the trail.

understanding your view here HHB...there is a difference between old A-camp & young A-camp...there is a respect gap within young A-camp & the best way to get past that is to show the youngens that kindness will get them a lot farther than the agro movies that have been happening. not an easy task, but we've seen it work in Babylon.

Earthstarvillage-names do not seperate, in our opinion, attitudes seperate. names are mearly a form of identification. Rainbows are made of many colors & the Rainbow Family is made up of many tribes; the ability for all the tribes to stand next to each other is what we think gives the Rainbow Family its depth & beauty

The only thing I'm gonna say is if bad stuff, and I mean really bad stuff like rape or violence, were goin down Id rather have and A camper on my side than some high holy or lil airy faery like me

 

i din't make the name up to just to make a comment and watch what happens. i really want to know how people feel. the reason i decided to ask is because of the people i have spoken to who have been robbed, hurt, or harrased by some drunk A camp ass hole who is taking advantage of the fact that the hippies hold to this love and acceptance attitude. non tolerance is not always evil if it protects the innocent. i was at a party last weekend where some drunk threw a crowbar and almost hit someone, he got his ass kicked, as he sould have. some of us pulled the guys off him so he wouldnt end up in a hospital,we do care, but why should everyones fun be ruined by a selfish asshole drunk. by the way, they really are the biggest reason why some communities groan when the hear a gathering is being held.

 

Do you assume that anybody who is holy, or high in spirit, would be unable to deal with an emergency? I do not even claim that there are no a-campers who are high and holy, so i am not sure of the distinction.
i will agree though that you do not look like someone who is dangerous, if that was an implication.

Succulent Flower, are you in a wheelchair? if you are, you could help me look for a good shitter site. With you helping to recruite a digging crew, maintain the ash, and handwash, and TP, it will be a cinch. There are also handrails to be tied up, and fabric you could bring fabric. And perhaps supply runs for soap and bleach, and a sign. A bunch of signs.

A rain tarp? do you have a rain tarp? about 10x 20? I was thinking about incense also. Do you think we need to tell not wheelchair folks to not use the wheelchair potty? or is that just looking for a fight.
Perhaps we should put twice as much work into every shitter at the gathering, so that no matter where one of those hardworking wheelchair bound rainbows was, we would be ready. Of course that would not happen just the ones nearest the main trail would have to change, and camps like miliways, and tea time and montana mud and avalon will get left alone.
Yep, you sure will be a lot of help.

I have another idea, if the whole shitter thing gets too much for the two of us. We can just go to main circle and find a place in the shade, and fast, and do hand massages.

I didn't mean to come off sounding contentious. Actually, usually when high holys are reffered to anywhere near the same breath as a-camp it's usually derogatory. Some of those bright motivated leader type souls are my buds and I got a hair up my ass about them being dissed.

Yeah, I've read your posts before and would enjoy the chance to meet you in person....I got 3 little 'uns and I travel without help, so front gate usually gets seen by me on the way in and on the way out----kiddie village and katuah is where my heart and self end up the most---but meetings happen and it's always a high magical environment---looking forward to meeting you and reuniting with all our brothers and sisters!

its true we all know it but some ppl dont care if any of them drunk ass's come bothering me i usally sick my rotty on them that is allways funny to see they try to run then fall after a few feet then my dog piss's on them

 

I feel that there is a constant reference to violence all the way through almost every thread i read on the internet.

I don't think the gathering is going to get better as the violence and animosity increases.

I give thanks that i was blessed with a sound mind and body, and i hope you all the best of health.

I admit though that i do not like to spend time with thiefs drunks or surly people.
