Alright, I know that I shouldn't ask this, due to rumors starting, and the phenominal speed at which they can grow, etc., etc. However, I am completely preoccupied with excitement and, well, the curiosity of what is going on down there in Colorado is winning .... Has anyone heard from scouts on how the search for the site is going? While I am at it, blessings to you amazing and awesome folks that are doing the scouting and many other preparative tasks for the annual gathering. I deeply and whole heart appreciate all you do so that we all can gather together. LOVE YOU and very much thanks!!
hi all bob here tried to post this before and i guess i screwed it up, nothin new we were at scout council and had a good time. i agreed to try to find a holding place central to where we are looking at sites for the co national. becka and i looked at a site right below dinasour national monument on the utah. colorado state line. it is 10 miles from dinasour co. or 35 miles from vernal Utah the sit is real nice with lots of trees for shade and it is along a river bed (it was dry when we were there) up to a high cliff going up. there is lots of room with nice flat areas surounded by trees the road is good to fair and should not cause a problem for most. we saw signs of water but did not have time to look for springs so bring lots of water. there was plenty of wood. it is blm land and has no posted restrictions the state line runs right through the site so you can be in utah or co. i will be coming next week with some kids from salt lake. if people show it should be a good site to hold up until the national. i called the local day labor places and they have plenty of both skilled and unskilled jobs paying $10 an hour or more. the area is ripe for scavaging and ground-scoring too. the directions to get to the site are as follows wether you come from the east or west go just west of the utah 170 mile marker on hwy 40 (4 miles west of dinasour Co.) turn north onto raod 16 and follow this gravel road for 6 miles you will see a corral on the left with a road to it. we followed this road in about half a mile and stopped to walk but the road turned out to not be too bad. This is the lower entrance and you can camp any where you fancy along it, or instead of turning at the corral you continue on 16 for 2 more miles you will cross a cattle gaurd with a road on the left right next to it. this is the upper entrance and goes down to meet the lower road. there is lots of good camping here too.
That area is really dry...especially in the summers... Would they really have the gathering somewhere where there is little to no access to water resources?
Seems like a strange place to have a holding camp...it's supposed to be a "central location", right? Well, that whole area is really dry... I was just asking a question.
I'm at work playing around online while eating lunch & stumbled across an interesting Colorado website regarding fire restrictions in the parks & levels of intense dryness / okayness. For those who, like me, like to geek out on such info. here is the link: http://www.dola.state.co.us/oem/PublicInformation/firebans/firebans.htm
Sister you're all good, that's just where some friends of mine want to camp/hold before moving to a more decadent spot. There's other holding camps and people can go where they want.... (I'm wonderign why you're ... offended? ... by the post) It wasn't as dry as you think, it being spring and there being mountain runoff so many creeks are up there, and it's low elevation so it's warmer than other spots. And if they move I'll post it ...
I don't mind at all. It's 86 degrees there now, and 56 in places where the gathering will be. even with the 300 gallons the bus is bringing, though, bringing water will be good. It's gonna be good.
