I'm trying to make a compilation album of Beatles' solo songs, from about 1970-1974. What are the biggest solo-Beatle hits from this era, in your opinions?

dont forget Ringos All Starr Band

I dont know the years, but Ringo has kept a combo going for his own fun for a long time.

I know at least I'm the Greatest, Sunshine Life For Me (Sail Away Raymond) and Early 1970 are within that time frame, and don't forget Photograph and It Don't Come Easy!

From George: My Sweet Lord, Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth), Far East Man (from '74's "Dark Horse"), Isn't It a Pity, Beware of Darkness, What is Life, Run of the Mill, Let It Down

from Paul: Maybe I'm Amazed, Jet (Band on the Run I think was 1973), Band on the Run....god anything from that album is gold practically...lol, and Junk

i think Band on the Run is pretty overrated and kinda boring, but thats just me. :p
RAM is where its at. :H

no one's mentioned john's "My Mummy's Dead," sure its short but that doesnt matter, thats one of the most brutally truthful songs he ever recorded.

I'm with soulrebel on this one. I MUCH prefer Ram to Band on the Run. I also prefer Venus and Mars to Band on the Run, but that's just me. ;)

Ram>Venus and Mars>Band on the Run.

I did this experiment once a long while ago... I made up my own fantasy "lost" Beatles album by combining what I considered to be all the best, most worthy, and my favourite of their solo material from the few years after The Beatles split...

I'll have to dig it out one day... I have it on cassette tape (shows how long ago I did it) .. [IMG]

... And, yes.. Ram is the best solo album by a former Beatle (in my opinion).

George Harrison- Give Me love (GIve me Peace on Earth), All things must pass, What is Life, Art of Dying, Apple Scruffs, My Sweet Lord, Bangladesh (The one from the concert), and One I like of his thats actually much later is Brainwashed

Ringo Starr- It don't come easy, Photograph, (don't know much of him)
Paul Mccartney- Maybe I'm Amazed, Live and Let die, dno much of his stuff
Lennon- Working Class Hero, Mother, Imagine, Instant Karma, Nobody told me, Geez theres a lot of good ones.
When Lennon died they all got back together and did "When We was Fab" FOr a George Harrison ALbum, that might be good to have on your cd.

Harrison, where do I start, there are so many....

Dark Horse is a good place to start.

    ATMP also.

I found his later albums a bit tedious, although songs like When We Was Fab and Got My Mind Set On You are classics.

Faster from the self titled album is an awesome song.

Do you like Dark Horse? Because most people I talk to tend to not like it, and I didn't myself until someone suggested to me that it seemed like a concept album (and pointed me to this: http://www.freewebs.com/extratexture/darkhorse.htm ) and then when I really dug in to the album I discovered how much I loved it.

Really the only album of his I dislike is "Somewhere in England". The song "Life Itself" is amazing, and his cover of "Baltimore Oriole" is pretty neat, but otherwise I much prefer the songs that were supposed to be on the album but got rejected by dumbass record execs (Lay His Head, Sat Singing, Flying Hour....)

but really, I pretty much love all his work besides Somewhere in England....but thats just me....

Agree on Somewhere in England, terrible, as is Gone Troppo.

I have been looking for a George song, on an album, but can't seem to find it. It's called Deradun. Can you hekp me?

Ringo songs....hmmm....not many that I like.....I absolutely love It Don't Come Easy, and Back Off Boogaloo, but most of his other work doesn't appeal to me, not that I have listened to it all yet.

Oohhhh...I like Gone Troppo...except for that first track- that is pure synth hell. But I'm especially fond of the title track, "that's the way it goes", "Dream Away", and "Circles"

Ah....Dehra Dun..thats a bootleg written during the Febuary 1968 India trip (Dehra Dun is the Airport nearest Rishikesh) and it was tossed about during the ATMP sessions, but it only exsists as a bootleg (which I have uploaded for you, my friend, because it is splendid)

    Dehra Dun: http://download.yousendit.com/9322D48505D9DA9A

    enjoy!

Ringo had 2 top ten hits "It Don't Come Easy" in 1971 and "Back Off Boogaloo" in 1972. With the assistance of the other 3 Beatles, Ringo had two #1 hits in 1973 "Photograph" & "You're Sixteen" and a top ten hit with "Oh My My". And in 1974 he had 2 hits with "Only You" and "No No Song".
