I used to have this dream constantly when i was younger. I would be standing at the base of these stairs inside a house. they was grey carpet and i could see part of the room behind the stairs there was a giant glass window that was on the back of the wall they view was covered by plants, so you really couldnt see anything there were two stone lions on eather side of the staircase and for some reason they were terrifying, i would be redicuoulsly scared for no reason and sometimes i would travel around the downstairs in this kind of hovering mode i couldnt see my self and i like a foot off the ground there was no furnature and they house was very clean i was always way too afraid of the lions to travel up the stairs but i didnt have much control of my dreams i must of had this dream atleast 100 times when i was younger. im not sure what this means this could be interpreted in many different ways. but i was wondering if anybody had a same dream with an unknown house.
Don't know what it means I - very similar dream - I'm 33 but remember this dream very strong I wake up (but I'm really asleep) and the house is very quiet.I see a vague shadow slide into the room - it is a magic carpet - I get onto it - and it flies me all around the fuckin house - really slow - totally silent - my terror grows as it glides into each room and reveals that no-one is there. It goes downstairs into the lounge and no-one is there infront of the TV - I start to realise I'm in an empty house and that no-one is there.I scream - in my dream but not in reality - by now in MATRIX terms I'd be dying - but no - I wake up shaking and I'm like 4 or 5 years old.My parents were and are happily married - but - I'm the youngest of three - I expain those nightmares by assuming that by their 3rd child - they were a bit tired of all the screaming etc a baby can produce and just did the old trick of - leaving me to it!
i have a somewhat similar dream from time to time now. at least in a sense. though i've seen the outside and explored it thoroughly. only in mine its not just a house, though i've been in parts of it that resemble what you discribe. it is surrounded mostly by forrest as the world it is on is mostly forrest. there are however some strainge, even numinous things about it. there are, in mine, no stone lions preventing me from exploring its upper reaches. but it is a very large, very old house, and very strainge house. on the floor below the one you describe there is a rather 'grand' entrance way, but not quite diplomatic reception grand, and not quite adams family either, though perhaps a bit more of the latter then the former. the entrence/exit to the outside is on that lower floor, as is sometimes a small cafateria, open to the public. there are elevators, escalators, slides and stairs. there are also hidden passages with stairs, something of a maze of them, sometimes ending at blank walls, kind of like the way the winchester mystery house has been described though i've never been there in waking life. people come there to the lower floors, it's kind of a combination musium and casino among other things, again mine i'm talking about, ah and if this doesn't get to loong i'll try to mention how mine relates to yours. at any rate there are no stone lions opposing my ascent as in yours. the floating arround and not seeing myself is typical of many many OTHER of my dreams, though oddly enough not this one. at any rate the floors above are kind of a furnature musium/warehouse. some of the rooms have those decorative 'ropes' you sometimes see like in banks and waiting rooms for crowd control, accross the enterance doors for you to look inside but not enter. in these rooms the furnature is pushed togather so that it couldn't actualy be used if you could enter. well it could but only with dificulty. the floors above this one are similar but unmaintained and full of dust and the only way to get through them is through the hidden passages, also full of dust and old bits of paper and trash on the floor as if no one had been there in ages. i've tidied up the ones i occasionaly use just a bit, but not enough to attract anyone's attention. the upper most floors are a bit scarry, as if, well there's one thing i know about, and that's like one of those kind of outside cellar doors if you've seen them, in the very roof itself, that if and when you ever decide you want to leave this life entirely you can open and climb out and not have to come back, but i wouldn't advise ever doing that untill you've lived all you want to live and seen all you want to see of this tangable life we're living now. but anyway, you can't even get there without finding the hidden passages and navigating them. and anyway, the uppermost attics are just about as, and for equaly no visibly appearant reason, as scarry as your stone lions. it is a fascinating place though, once you find a way into those hidden passages that enable you to do an end run arround most of the fear barriers. well i guess you can see where that's both similar and different and i suspect that house is in some sense an analog of our physical brain. those fear barriers might well represent some physical problems or potential for them. not being a brain surgeon i couldn't say for sure though. although your stone lions might well be alies protecting and preventing you from going where you might get yourself damaged or in trouble of some kind. or like musium security keeping people out of the behind the scenes storage and work areas that might be fascinating but too many people going through would get underfoot and in the way of the work being done there or damage fragile and suseptable artifacts that are there for safe keeping untill some way that is safe for them can be found to put them on display. that sort of thing. =^^= .../\...
A few years ago I had a similar type of dream. I was standing at the bottom of a stairway, and at the top was an open door. Bright, natural-looking light shone through it. There was a luminous and green world on the other side. I knew this was some type of higher consciousness that I wanted to get to. However, at the base of the stairs there was a poisonous snake acting like guard. I picked up the snake and walked up the stairs to the doorway, but just I was about to step through, the snake pulled it's head out and bit me on the wrist. When I woke up and starting thinking about the dream, it dawned on me that the snake was something in my waking life that I had to take responsibility for.
