To look at me you wouldn’t think of me as a hippie, though people who know me say the hippie in me is still alive and well. Sometimes I need a hippie fix, that is I need to revisit my old hippie days. Just get a taste of what I experienced back then.

This website helps but it’s only a virtual experience. Portland is a hippie-friendly town, so there are some opportunities. Occasionally I visit my hippie friends, I go to protest rallies now and then to vent my frustrations over Bush & Co., I patronize some of the bars popular with hippies. There is a Grateful Dead cover band in Portland playing gigs every couple weeks, and there is the occasional reggae band. And now that summertime is almost upon us there will be outdoor concerts, festivals and gatherings.

I’m not big on drum circles, I don’t care to join any political organization because I’m just too damn moderate, and I don’t care to be a regular at outdoor hippie hangouts because too many of them there are not what I’d call hippies, just stoners and mooches.

So, what do you do when you need a hippie fix?

I just wait for another acid flashback.

No, but seriously concerts and especially music festivals always do the trick for me. I usually meet all kinds of people there and sometimes end up hanging out with them somewhat often. I know of some good festies arround portland, like the string summit and high sierra (a little further away i guess) but yeah check those out.

    Peace brother

Newo, I feel it too. Other than right after an occasional trip down to Hyde Park, I get to feeling like I'm in a "hippie desert".

I don't know any hippies in the flesh, and I never have either.

I just put on some of my 60s movies, flick through some old books or mags... stuff like that.
