so, how many of you all do not allow your children to play in the mud? seriously, now. why? why not? my kids have been astounded lately that every neighbor kid who comes over to play is terrified of getting dirty in our backyard (while my kids are happily splashing in the mud and finding worms in the garden, making a big mess). Frankly, I'm a little amazed by it myself. I wonder if people don't want their kids to get dirty just because their parents didn't let them get dirty, so they do the same thing without really having a good reason for it. We spent an entire afternoon last weekend making mudpies with a seven-year-old girl who had never played in the mud, not once, in her entire life. I mean, they are kids, they are going to get dirty anyway, they always come clean in the bathtub. It's not that big a deal, is it? and if it is, why is that? We all used to be kids, right? Do people just forget what it was like, or what? I honestly don't get it.
Don't really remember playing in the mud, probably just wasn't all that interested. We had a sandpit so would just play with that. My parents would have been cool with mud though, cause yeah they're happy and it all comes out in the wash. That said I've always had a thing for 'icky' textures; wallpaper paste, eggs, snails sliding across my hand (used to adopt them as 'pets' lol). There is such a joy to it all. So yeah I'd be totally for mudpies.
I am also totally pro mudpies! I wasn't that much in the sand or mud when I was little, butI was all for getting dirty. Usually it was paint... which didn't come out as good as good ol plain mud I think mud and sand and clay and paint and other stuff like that is really good for children, it activates their imunesystem (not the paint...though), and it really boosts their creativity. People who don't want their children to play in the mud are probably just of the sort that is desinfecting everything in their house everyday.
OOOH I love mudpies! I am a nanny and the little boy and I that I take care of are always going off on adventures and getting muddy and dirty. Although I dont know if he would ever make mudpies... for the shear fact that he would have to slow down for a bit... ha, he is always on the go. No time to sit down. When I was little my Mom always laughed because no matter where I went o play I would come back dirty. There is a picture of me from when I was about 6... I was helping my Mom garden and I have dirt literatly from my head to my toes. MUd is fun and I dont get why kids arent allowed to play in it either
I loved playing in the mud/dirt as a child, and encourage my kids to do the same, which they have no problems doing! I mean, come on, it's fun and who cares if you get dirty! It washes off!
As a kid, I used to make mudpies...then eat them...weird, right? LOL I took my nephew to the park one day and it had rained the day before so I encouraged him to take off his shoes (like Aunt Annie) and walk in the mud. He cried and cried and walked AROUND the mud puddles...apparently his mother has never encouraged that "behavior"...pfffff, whatever, he's gonna have to get over it because mud is where it's at. My nephew hates dirt...because his mother is the biggest neatfreak I've ever met in my life. I don't understand her.
oh, to this day i still want to play in the mud! it's just so much fun! two weeks after Leane was born, cody, my BIL and I all went mud-bogging! It was so much fun! lol
that's how our neighbor's kids act when they see my kids playing in the mud (we have the cool backyard, so they all come over here to play). They totally freak out, and run up to me and tell on my kids like they are torturing puppies or something. Then they look at me like I'm insane when I just shrug and say, "yeah, it looks like lots of fun, doesn't it?" LOL
I've never gotten those parents that are constantly trying to keep their kid from getting dirty. Our six y/o is really only clean for the first ten minutes after her bath. Spring up here is a mud extravaganza. Seven months of snow has only just melted and left us with a sea of mud. So much fun. I went to the thrift store the other day to buy some mud dishes. Now Zoe does not have to "borrow" dishes from the kitchen to prepare her mud delites.
i have always been a mud dawber and both of my kids are as well,,,, i dont think either one ever turned down a good stomp fest through the barns either.... of course my kids werent keen on clothing either until they had to wear them....
When we were little, my dad wanted my sister and I to be clean at ALL times. But, he worked days and my mom worked nights so she's sneak us to my grammies every day and let us play in the backyard and she had a dirt pit that she'd put water in specially for my sister and I, then before my dad came home mom would have us home and dressed to impress. He got over us being cleanfreaks when he come home early and caught my sister and I outside looking like we crawled out of the woodworks. =P I'm all for mudpies and dirt baths and anything outside that's dirty fun....that's what showers are for.
