I've been taking vitamins and herbs etc for over 10 years.I feel they do a body good in the long run.I just started taking NKO(neptune krill oil).Good stuff folks.I figure it's easier to take suppliments then eating 14 lbs a day of all the things we're supposed to.Why did I tell ya'll this? To see how many of us "seasoned" folks did the same thing.Peace
Im very keen on taking vitamins using herbs....I think it does a world of good for you. Lately I have been slacking though.....not getting the vitamins I should be. By the way.....I think your avatar pic is really cool
I used to take various herbal supplements when I lived in Boulder and could frequent Vitamin Cottage and Whole Foods, but now that I live south of Atlanta in redneck-ville, I can't get any good herbs anymore unless I drive 25 miles to the big city of Hotlanta (which is an awesome city by the way!). So, I just try to eat right and I actually feel better because I've cut out so much of the crap food (processed flours, sugars, trans fats, hydrogenated oils, etc.). I would rather do this than pop my herbal supplements anymore. But if you can get good herbs in your neighborhood, that's a great way to go. Homebudz, love the beard man. But don't bugs get caught it in when you're riding your hog?
LMAO-yeah they sure do,but I have to have the beard for xmas.I'm santa at the IV Bikers toy give-away.The thought of wearing a phoney beard for the kids just doesn't get it.Kids are pretty smart when it comes to santa, and can spot a phoney a mile away. I wish I could eat right, but that ain't gonna happen soon. So,it's all the suppliments for me,and they do make a big difference.Peace my friends
I take St. John's Wort and vitamin E with C. I tried Ginkgo Biloba to see if it would improve my mental alertness and it seemed a waste of my money. I think my brain has decided to protest the many years of number crunching that I do in my work. Anyone take ginseng? I've thought about it to increase my energy.
I take feverfew to help ward off migraines, B12 vitamin for energy and good moods, cranberry capsules to help keep my cycles regular and multi vitamins. I pop some vitamin C and echanacia(sp?) when I feel a cold coming on. I drink green tea for the anti dioxants and chamomile to aid digestion. I think that's about it.
That was going to be by next question, whether you played Santa at Christmas. Yup, the kids know a fake beard from a real one. My two kids always know when a Santa just "isn't right" cuz the beards always a dead give away. Have you ever been to Sturgis during your days of riding a motorcycle?? We caught the tail end of it 2 yrs. ago while camping in S.D. -- the kids loved the big bikes and the cool looking people. I love that place!
Good thread for us. I also take St. Johns wort...have been for years and I think it helped save my sanity. I also take liquid B-12, selenium(cause its so depleted in our soil),a multi(it can't hurt)Dong qui (for my nuttiness and cramping at the threshold of my croniness), we also drink rooibos tea(more anti's than green) and echinecia at the first sign of any sniffles. I've just begun taking rhodiola rosea root extract and rhododendron caucasicum extract and CLA one. These last are very beneficial, the CLA is linoleic acid. here is a link about Rhodiola.....reduces stress in the body. http://rhodiolarosea.org/ The rhododendron increases blood supply to the muscles especially to the brain...Alpine tea is what they call it in the Soviet Republic, and the oldsters over there drinkit constantly....where they live to be...over 100 ALOT. http://www.manyhands.com/articles/georgia.html Interesting to read about. I also drink red wine a little every day and eat LOADS of tomatoes and GARLIC!!!!
Thanks for those links Teepi. I've never heard of rhodeo rosea (sp?) but I'll look for it on my next trip to Whole Foods. That plant looks very much like a sedum (succulent) which I have all over my yard. I wonder if these are distant cousins? Cheers y'all **raises glass of red wine** Here's to living to be 100, or there 'bouts.
Ahhh at last my feild.. I just happen to be an herbal healer and have been using herbs since the blind man's Jerry(s) health food store was opened in Haight ashbury in the sixties. Living off the land helps as in eating fresh. but still not enough nutrition in the amount of food we eat, overuse, chemicals and verious other means of distruction has left our soil poorly nutritioned. We'd have to eat 14 lbs of fruit(s) n veggie(s)to get nurished.. supplementing is the only way to get the body right with nutrition. I would be happy to help any one with quetions or concerns about herbs their uses and their draw back (not many draw back unless ur on heart meds). Maybe I'll start an herbal healing forum if I can. Is that something the folks in here might enjoy?? let me know.shameless
Hey Budz! Thanks for the thread. Good One. Water... H2O... and lots of it, is my first regimen. It transports nutrients to all cells and removes and aides in the excretion of waste products from those very cells. 2-3 quarts/day. Milk Thistle, Astragalus, Licorice Root and Dandelion Root for my Hepatitis C/Pulmonary Fibrosis ... nagging and ever present infection. Horsetail(silica) for my chronic bronchiectisis, COPD & CRPD, and emphazema. Saw Palmetto Berries... for the hair loss I suffered from Chemo I had after Colon Cancer surgery, and the later the 2 episodes of hair loss I suffered with Hep C. Also use Nettle and Saw Plametto Berry powder in a rinse I use after shampooing what I have left to me. Now you know why I wear a babushka. EPA-DHA Omega-3 Fish Oil & E-400 IU c Lycopene for autoimmune-like arthritis that comes with the Hep C and Cryoglobulinemia... also releives some of the pain that comes with. Lutein, for my failing eyesight. And finally... Vinpocetine. A derivitive of Vinca Minor... which supports brain and memory function. It increases the O2 delivery to the brain. Well, let's not forget the Multi-Vit. Who knows what we're eating or get in terms of nutrition from the food we eat... homegrown or otherwise. It's a very different world out there after the Atomic and Hydrogen Bomb testing of the 50's. Those tests increased the background radiation by 17%... Take Care... Take Herbs... and drink lots of water.
I am diabetic and take lots of antioxidants. Blueberries are the best natural source. Those lines and wrinkles and general aging are caused by oxidative stress. Also lots of Vit C, milkthistle (for hep c). Amino acids are also good. Taking acid depletes your amino acids, so I started making sure I had plently when I was younger, no acid for me any more, but I still make sure I get enough. I am going to try shitake mushrooms, there is new evidence that they are good for all sorts of things. My sis in-law is from Austria and writes a column on natural medicine for an Austrian magazine, so she helps our family find out what we need to be taking. I guess we are what we eat.
Hi Sam I am,Hi Gredall.I have just started taking Neptune Krill oil.Much better the the fish oil suppliments.I take a whole bunch of natural vitamins, including E,and Ester C,emullsified A,and a few others that I can't think of right now.I am looking into something for my glaucoma.I tried bilberry with luiten(sp)for over a year with no joy.I'll do some more research and see what I can find.Peace
Mornin' Budz! The first thing I find for treatment and prevention of that Thief of Sight is: Modification of lifestyle, especially by controlling Stress. Anxiety and stress increase production of cortisone and other natural chemicals that are toxic to the eye and brain. Protect your liver (which protects your eyes) by eating a plant-based diet. Make sure you consume plenty of foods containing potassium and magnesium (which will probably require supplements, since it's difficult to obtain adequate amounts from food). Don't add extra salt to your food; excess salt can raise blood pressure and internal eye pressure. It can also reduce the stores of potassium within your body. Drink water to dilute the toxins in your body. Normally, drinking six to eight glasses of water a day is useful, although it occasionally temporarily raises intraocular pressue. Nonetheless, its value ourweighs potential risk. You may not be able to drink eight glasses of water each day, but start increasing your intake gradually. Our cells cannot afford to be dehydrated, and consuming adequate amounts of water helps to reduce joint and back pain, too. Moderate use of alcohol. And use what you've been using to lower your cholesterol with natural supplements. Supplementation Recommendations: Omega-3 essential Fatty Acids: 500 mg daily. Transfats, which displace the essential fatty acids in the body, are often found at higher concentrations in the diets of people with glaucoma and high internal eye pressure.... if you have a bleeding conditions or take anticoagulants... consult DR. before taking Omega-3 fats. sources include; walnuts, conola oil, flaxseeds and flaxseed oil, and green leafy veggies. ENZYMES... SOD, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase may play important roles in the treatment and specific reactions in the trabecular meshwork. Specific dosage recommendations are not available, but researchers have found that the concentrations of proteins and the vital tissue enzyme SOD in the trabecular meshwork decline with age. (I have to look into this today)... Herbs: Coleus forskohlii... an herb from India shows TEMPORARY effects on intraocular pressure... rarely recommended. Trifolia... is a combination that normalizes the liver and stimulates the parasymptathetic nervous system. Reduces stress, relaxes the bowel, acts as a laxative, lowers blood pressure, and after one month, appears to produce an average reduction of 20 percent in intraocular pressure. Only problem is; you have to be religious in taking it. I have more info. Marijuana... Although touted as an effective treatment for glaucoma, mj is really only minimally effective. Cnidium, citrus, capillaris, and corydalis have been shown to increase retinal blood flow. A really good book to paruse is: "The Eye Care Revolution, Prevent and Reverse Common Vision Problems" ... Combines the best of alternative and conventional methods to treat: Catarats, Glaucoma, Dry Eye, Macular Degeneration and Diabetes-Related Vision Loss. Sorrry for going on and on... but I was into it. Sam
Thanx Sam I am.I drink lots of water(my favorite drink).Only drink beer on occasions.Krill oil is even better the the fish oil.Check it out Sam,great stuff.Stress and anxiety right now goes along with owning a custom bike shop.We just got invited to the AMD ProShow world champion build offs.No stress there(sheeeittttt!!!!!). I use phoney balony salt when I use it at all.Research last night found that ginko biloba and vitamin c help out greatly. On that I use Ester C.More absorbtion then regular C.Lecithen also helps keep the pipes clean so I take that.I also take a natural multi vitamin/mineral/herb formula that is pretty complete.400 units of E with the tropepheryls(sp)omega/beta/gamma stuff,as well.Let me put it this way, after I take my vits in the morning,I rattle when I walk ;}> peace folks.Oh yeah,I have my Med mar card for my glaucoma. It helps.
