Al Qaeda is threatening to attack corporate and financial institutions in New York City

Top federal and local law enforcement officials met in New York over the weekend to discuss new intelligence that indicates al Qaeda is threatening to attack corporate and financial institutions in New York City, a police source said on Sunday.

The New York Police Department source told Reuters that increased intelligence "chatter" from overseas of a possible fresh attack of the city prompted meetings late Friday and early Saturday between NYPD chief Raymond Kelly and Pasquale Damuro, head of the FBI’s office here.

"The intelligence is not specific but we are taking it very seriously," the source said, noting that the intelligence was deemed "credible."

The threat was first reported by ABC News, which said the authorities were particularly disturbed that the information indicated attacks may be carried out by one or more suicide truck bombings.

After several meetings, the NYPD issued a statement that said, "Intelligence reporting indicates that al Qaeda continues to target commercial and financial institutions, as well as international organizations, inside the United States."

The police department said it "recommends that corporate and institutional security directors review their protection of HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems, parking installations, and security in general."

Although the information has not been corroborated, its source is considered credible, the official said.

    wake up bitches,

They are attacking FINANCIAL AND ECONOMIC INSTITUTIONS
THEY HATE OUR EXPLOITATION, THEY ARE FIGHTING OUR ECONOMIC MONSTER.
IF WE CONTINUE TO EXPLOIT THE FUCK OUT OF THE WORLD THINGS LIKE THIS WILL NEVER END... THIS IS WHY LIBERTARIANISM CAN NEVER BE THE ANSWER, AND WILL NEVER MAKE THE WORLD MORE PEACEFUL. UNTIL WE STOP THE SWEATSHOPS ALL OVER THE WORLD, UNTIL WE REALIZE WHAT THE FUCK WE ARE PUTTING THROUGH PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD.

Another Ridge press conference, just after the democratic convention, and on a Sunday afternoon. I've always wondered why the Bush administration never schedules Ridge on Friday evenings of three-day holiday weekends like they do for Bush's press releases about his national guard records and other bad news.

The last time I saw Ridge on TV was a day after Bush and Ashcroft made another one of their 'tough on terrorism' speeches.

Why? Al Qaeda is obviously going to hit Italy next and probably a lot harder than they hit Spain.

DUBAI (Reuters) - A militant group claiming links to al Qaeda has given Italy a 15-day deadline to withdraw its troops from Iraq (news - web sites) or face attacks, in a statement sent to the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi newspaper Sunday.

"We are mobilizing our cells everywhere in Rome and other Italian cities and we give (Italian Prime Minister Silvio) Berlusconi 15 days to withdraw from Iraq, said the statement signed by Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades -- al Qaeda Organization.

"After that we will not be responsible for any loss of lives," said the statement, made available to Reuters ahead of publication. Its authenticity could not be immediately verified.

"We had already sent you an earlier message asking you to withdraw from Iraq as soon as possible but have not seen anything yet ... and this is why the language of blood is on its way to you," the Arabic-language statement, which was addressed to Berlusconi's government and dated July 31, added.

The group has previously issued threats against European countries, saying it would start with Italy, for not responding to a three-month "truce" issued to European states by al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden (news - web sites) which expired in July.

U.S. officials have said Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades links with al Qaeda are unclear.

I hope this is not true. But I think these warnings can be politically motivated. Put fear in the people, so they will be afraid to vote for change because they might be decieved in thinking that they will lose there security.

apparently NYC did the right thing and basically snubbed the alert.

there have no increases of call-offs from work, life hasnt stopped, and both Mayor Bloomberg and Peataki(however it's spelled)rang the bell for the stock exchange..all on the day in question.

New Yorkers have all but totally flipped Bush and his cronies off on this one.

    smart people.
