ahh no im going to brighton uni - but the falmer campus so very close. doing english with sociology.what are u studying?? xx
Hi all, I am in Brighton.. Born bought up and living it up in Brighton... Knowing my luck ill prolly die here too Regards The_Warden
Brighton here also. Bah to all you bloody students, coming down here, stealing our jobs, copying our cool haircuts, eating our fair trade lentils, ruining my local and building fucking Tescos. Bugger off back to Kent or wherever your rich tory parents live and get a mortgage or something... joke?
I went to Brighton Uni - performing arts - same as fleassy but I went in 1998 - I was standing outside the royal pavillion with my portfolio and some geezer came up to me and for no reason other than I was a student headbutted me in the face - didn't stop me though - I lived there 12 years - fuckin cool place - I wrote a 45 minute dancey/ambient track about it - it's on download .com called 'Brighton Dark Fantastic' - at:- http://music.download.com/brightondarkfantastic/3600-10615_32-100829838.html
Shit, was only kidding about the student thing dude, thought the haircut bit made it obvious I was joking, obviously not. Violence not nice but I must admit to laughing very hard when some townie in the street called me a student as an insult. Some mates of mine are students and all that, just so many annoying clueless rich kids also (especially in my local hehe). Brighton getting even more sterile every day, which is what's upsetting me. Look at the North Laine for example and the new street they built. Really upsets me that, just looks like some bland part of London with fucking Wagamama, fucking Yo! Sushi, fucking trendy wank bar, fucking Tescos, TESCOS in the North Laine FFS, fucking Starbucks. The amount of people using that Starbucks is pretty sad as well. It's always packed but there's at least 20 or 30 cheaper, independent coffeeshops within 5 mins walk from there yet people decide to go to fucking Starbucks, I suppose it's because, you know, you're buying more than just coffee, you're buying the lifestyle and that dream of existence you can only just reach if you get another credit card. Fuck off. Quirky indie shops are closing down because the big boys are moving in and shoving the rent prices sky high. And the bastard council cracking down on funky shop signs and flyers/posters, which, in my opinion is what makes the North Laine such a groovy place yet they let the corps rape and contaminate as they please. Bah. I love this old town but have a lot of gripes with it at the same time. Wouldn't live anywhere else as long as I'm in the UK though. Come on, bring the bitching, makes good reading hehe [/rant] peace J
Hey reverend, I work as a parking attendant in Brighton and ill tell ya summit.. What they did around the Lanies is slowly making it look more attractive.. You seen the construction site along New england Road in the Delta area of Brighton?? Or the construction site in Old steine..(charlie area) Both are aimed to bring people to brighton but what they dont know is theres very little parking in both areas.. Brighton is a slightly oddish town in all my life n the only pointless thing in this town is the west pier.. Personally best to rip it down its already burnt down.. Regards
Is that guy with white hair and a long coat still pointing at buses? If you haven't seen him and you live in Brighton - don't worry - you will!
If you're into identikit bullshit soulless crap that could be literally any other town in Britain, then yes it's very attractive. As I mentioned in my last post this is why so many cool and quirky independent shops are closing down because these rich developers are moving in and charging extortionate rents which only babylon companies can afford, thus increasing all the prices in the area for the small traders. Brighton has always been a groovy town where folk come to drop out and where you can be comfortable living an alternative lifestyle, parts of the town are dirty, yes, and they should bloody well stay dirty unless they are fixed up creatively, attractively and most of all affordably. The dirt and grime is unique and has character whereas the alternative at the moment is highly sanitised, completely soulless and insulting to anyone with more than about 4 brain cells. If you want to go to starbucks or topshop or wherever else it is that these people like to buy their identity then go up western road, it's not like there's any shortage of big corporate shops up there or plenty of other places in town for that matter. Big business is greedy and won't rest until all 'competition' is out of business. Boycott 'em. FFS man, New England Road is being turned into trendy yuppie flats and a giant fucking sainsbury's, oh yeah and a small community space to shut those whining objectors up, with a couple of 'affordable' shoebox apartments in a different part to the yuppies. Oh, I almost forgot, that big sainsburys is only 5 mins from the market where individuals sell top notch fruit, veg & fish. If sainsbury's can do it 30p cheaper then sadly people will shop there, putting yet more indies out of business. And any idiot knows there's not enough parking in B'ton. That's why you have a job. It's unnecessary to own a car in such a small town anyway but that's not the point. At least it's different, a lot more interesting than any of that new development bullshit. Tear down the palace pier I say. Besides, if they were to knock it down it would only be turned into another exclusive money waster's wet dream. That and a car park. Why do people see no wrong with brighton's individuality being raped in the name of convenience and sanitation? It's a cool place to live but if people do nothing then it goes even more downhill. The council are a bunch of incompetent wankers and half the people are idiots, caring more about a fucking football stadium than what's happening right under their noses. Sorry for the incoherence, smoked a little too heavily this morning (yes, dopey idealistic hippy, I know). I'm not saying I'm right on on all points just how I feel and how people need to open their eyes a little more. Support small business! Don't shop in big chain stores! You don't have to! Be adventurous and give something back to this town! bleh
