That was a little offending. Was that meant to be sarcastic?

A little offending? Geez- Jester may be losing his touch.

Tell me- what would REALLY offend you? How important is it for you to cede emotional control to folks who are more than happy just to push your buttons? There's plenty out there if you want to be thin skinned enough- hell I button-push for sport from time to time.
My advice is you acquire two things:
    1. A thick skin
    2. A sense of humor

Both will serve you well in life.

If you believe that the days of Flower Power are over, than why are you in Hippyland? LOL!

It's offending to me when people dress as hippies for halloween. It really shoves it in your face that that way of life has diminished and faded out. I don't like to believe that. I like to believe that there are still people out there that hold hippie ideals and believe in the power of fellowship. It's sort of like being mocked, if you know what I mean.

You aren't very nice. You shouldn't judge people like that. People come on this site to speak their minds without being judged. This isn't supposed to be high school all over again. Maybe I was wrong about this place.

So we're not supposed to speak our minds back at you? Seems like you have a bit of a chip on your shoulder- bound and determined to be offended because someone who doesn't think like you dared to speak up. I really didn't see where people were being judged.

You just make it fun... I'm convinced- it's a good costume idea... think I'll go as a hippie this October--- don some nice tie-dye, put flowers in muh hair and reek of patchouli. I wonder how many mushrooms I'll collect.

Gotta say, I'm with Jester and stinkfoot on this one. Woodstockhild, you really gotta lighten up, hun. Why get offended because people like to dress up as hippies for Halloween?

Halloween is a day of fun and celebration. A day to play dress up, and act silly. You're saying it's wrong for someone to want to dress as a hippie for it? You're holding too much attachment to the clothing, thinking that it makes hippies what they are, when the exact opposite is true. I could dress in a suit and tie and still be a "hippie" if I wanted to. The clothes don't make the man, as the saying goes.

Yeah, as much as I hate to admit it...I agree with Jester on this one, too.

I think you need to lighten up, WoodstockChild...laugh a little.

And anyway, exactly how DO hippies dress??? Because I've seen plenty of old hippies in suits...just like I've seen plenty butt naked.

    Stereotyping is such a drag...

It's only been lately that people have started to agree with you and not flame the shit out of you...

I think you're the common denominator here ;)

They walk around on halloween holding up a peace sign, but do they mean it? If you're going to say "peace" then mean it. Hippiedom is taken too lightly.

Do you think people who dress up as cowboys/cowgirls are mocking that lifestyle? Or how about people who dress up like firefighters or police officers? Are they mocking them? Do you think firefighters feel offended by seeing that costume on Halloween???

    Please.

i think what she is saying is, the hippies in the 60s all had a simliar style, very loose comfortable clothing, light pastel colors, its a certain kind of style. but that what they liked, because hippies are free spirits and they like to be comfortable, yep:)
