    Hey there everone,

I have loads of ideas. I gather more and more everyday. I write a synopsis, I sit in front of my computer all revved up to write, I write the best part of the story and then .... I can't be bothered writing anymore. I don't know why. Is it lack of motivation? I have tonnes of unfinished stories.

Can anyone give me any ideas on why this is happening? Is there any relief from this? Should I try new surroundings? Write by hand?

    Thanks for your help. :)

is there any way you could condense your ideas into short stories? ok, this sounds dumb and maybe patronizing, but maybe you could write a killer of a short story while you still have the writers fire; before you fade and become bored.

everything is short with me. my writing is short, my attention span is relatively short, any art i do is rarely finished....

i work best in small bursts, while the idea is still new and fresh. i could never be a novelist!

i dont think its bordem, i think its that when you begin to get stuck into an idea, your subconscious wanders and wants to know what you'll be doing for your next piece...so you begin to long for that freshness of beginning a new project again and the old one goes incomplete.

    ohhhh i ramble.......

i think that was a poor excuse for a piece of advice, but hey, thats all i got :)

No you make sense Im like that to i always start it and do so much but then i just cant push it foward and start writing something else just to give that story space but then when i go back to it im still stuck and end up throwing it away but its easier too write shorter things for me maybe its the same way for you

Hey there! I know exactly what you're going through!!! You know, in a way it's kind of a relief to hear that other people are going through this too. (Don't get me wrong...I'm not happy that you're struggling.) I know that every writer probably goes through this, but man...I was starting to get worried. I, too, have a lot of ideas going through my head. But, as soon as I sit down to write...my mind starts to wander, or I just get frustrated when I get stuck at a certain point.

There are a couple of things I heard that might help, though:

1...you could just "shelve" your ideas for a few days when you get stuck...this could give you time to work out the story, and sort through some details, then you could start working again when you're ready and a little refreshed

2...you could also just work at a certain time each day...dedicate yourself for an hour or two (or however long you'd like), and then pick it up again the following day...that way you might prevent yourself from getting stuck or frustrated

Environment/surroundings could also be a part of it, too. Personally, I think that's my problem, but who knows? Also, remember what the others said...you could always just try condensing your work, and turn your ideas into short stories. Then, once you complete those short stories...you could always go on and add to them if you'd like to. Just a suggestion...:)

Every writer does this. Everyone. All of them. Be prepared to write lots of shitty short stories before you start writing shitty novel. It takes a fuck load of time. I suggest you 1) give up 2)Keep doing no matter what. Make a goal you must meet, no matter what you're doing. Say, 2 pages a day. So you must write two pages or more a day, no exceptions. I find this works with anything from lossing weight to practicing an instrument to bringing your grades up. You just have to sit down and do it, even if the short stories you write are shit. btw, stick to short stories. Make a few good stories and then head on to novels, or expand on the stories.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! They are very helpful. I've realised that I AM better at writing short stuff. Lately I've been coming up with 5 minutes scripts. I'm so busy with study and catching up with people that I've barely had time to write, but luckily the ideas are all well-kept in my head.. ready to be written another time. Again... thanks and peace be with you. xoxoxox :sunglasse

Yeah, I know what you mean. I used to have that problem, I made many stories that were, like, 2 pages long, then I'de get bored with it. Finally, I found one that I've actually been working with for a year or so. I just started on it again about 2 months ago, and I'm now on page 16, the longest I've ever gotten (this is in 9-font). So this is working well for me, I dunno, I think you just ahve to find a story that can hold your interest. Wow, that advice sucked:plol sorry
