Hey man. I can relate to the christianity, my parents are the up with the bells and to knees before bed kinda family. Me I took the opposite route, following my main influence of john lennon, garcia, and a little bit of the beatles, and was engulfed into the hippy cluture and life style. You can't let your parents blow your lifestyle man. If you just stick with it you can show them that this is who you really are and not just a phase...you know what I'm saying? My parents have not accpeted it but they have learned that I am set in my ways and they have stoped trying to convince me to change...see what I'm saying?

    I hope that helped man...

    Peace

    Al

hehe, my father tries to make me believe he never was involved in any hippie activity (except protesting against the vietnam war and being part in the socialist youth movement), but as soon as he turned 18 he and his friends drove around europe in a cheva van. he also claims he only smoked pot once, but we all know he's lying, don't we? :p also, his vinyl collection is filled with hendrix, beatles and bob dylan. my mother is boring though. she's never even smoked.

I think that there are many parents who were once hippies and 'grew up' in a sense... got jobs and college degrees and no longer do the whole tye-dye-shirt thing any more.

My parents WERE hippies and I grew up listening to Grateful Dead, The Doors, Janis, Jimi... so there's no surprise that I became what I am.
But I think it's really cool to have parents that really know how to enjoy themselves. I just hope they will let ME enjoy too...:p

Yep. I've got an old hippie dad.. hes 60 now and still goin strong ahhaaha.

My mom's not really much of one anymore (shes 12 yrs younger than him and wasn't exactly happening when hippies were in their prime i guess lol seing as she was still a kid.).. She was folky and grand at one point up until a few years ago.. then she just changed and she runs with the rest of the world now... Oh well. She doesn't weave baskets anymore but shes still my mama.

But my dad, yeah he was definitely, and still pretty much is. He did the whole hitchhiking thing, went to Haight-Ashbury (hated it.. said it was scary as hell actually), went to Woodstock, Watkins Glen etc.., settled down here in a little oasis and he still leads a humble life, and has raised me with all his amazing values and qualities, good music, and has opened my eyes to far too much and given me a perspective that I'm very lucky to have. I could have gone way more into detail and elaborated some more and it would have been more interesting, but I'm tired. :D

anyhow, there you have it. yes, my dad was/is a hippie. :D

i wouldn't say my mom's a hippie cause she was born in 61, but the time sure rubbed off on her. she's got the complete mentality and everything. my dad was more into the drugs at the time haha, and he's not completely a hippie but i can see a bit of it there:)

That's exactly how my parents feel, they think that I'm gonna grow out of this phase and come back to the church, but I absolutely have no desire to do so. I think that it's bullshit, The Catholic Church and all. My dad was an alcoholic and he goes to AA meetings, but while he was drinking he was a real influence in my beliefs (he didn't believe in the Catholic Church much). Now since he's gone to AA, he's now praying and talking about how his life in God's hand, and shit like that.

It makes me uncomfortable to tell him that I don't believe in God and I believe that it wasn't God that got him to AA and stop drinking, but it was just me and him. I helped him a lot, even when the rest of my family gave up on him, but he now discredits that and thinks that this stupid non-existent God helped him into AA.

Nope, not at all. My parents are not hippies in any way, and they disapprove of my being one. They think my rants about politics and corporate greed are hyped up.

Yeah. They might not look it, but they are. They raised me to be a free thinker and have encouranged me in my lifestyle. I think they think there are worse things I could do. :p
I feel for my fiance, he's more conservative than even my parents. :D Opposites do attract though, I will convert him! ;)

My parent's aren't hippies at all. They are really conservative and superficial. I don't know where I got my influence from. I wouldn't really say it is music or anyone that I look up to. But I think I watched a movie or read about hippies and it just seemed like the greatest lifestyle or something. I really don't know.

Nah, my parents aren't hippies either, I was always sort of hippyish, as though not quite there yet, but then something happend (I'd rather not say right now cos at the moment it's making me depressed) and I Was like yeah, that's how I wanna be. I only found out recently that one of my uncles used to be a sort of hippy too!
