I am just two years out of High School and I am already in Proffesional Studios recording Vancouver bands demos/albums! it is insane experience.....we get in the studio at 10:30pm and we usually walk out around sunrise at 6am.....it is so great to interact with these bands and do the best thing to engineer and produce these albums.....life is insane....i'm already living the life of the music industry and it is fun as hell!
that sounds AMAZING. id love to do that. any tips on getting ahead that way? point me in the right direction... im a die-hard singer.
you have no idea dude! the studio is still a place of creativity and fun. in fact, 30 or 40 years ago actually would of sucked. everything was such a hassel and everything was destructive to the recording....tape is a medium that only gets worse with every play/recording.....
Analog is a medium that isnt destroyed by water and can be archived forever... if it gets moldy, clean it... works again.
the music is still there and always will be...don't let crappy music fool you...there's plenty of great artists out there...just look for them.
wrong, sorry. analog tape, no matter how good, will die over time....many things will kill it... have you ever heard of print thru? well the magnetic flux (the substance which holds the charge) can move to other parts of the tape, and at that point multiple parts of the song will be played at the same time.... unless you are storing your tape in a huge room where it can be strung out (which no one could afford), print thru is inevitable........and heat and humidity will destroy the tape as well. all the recordings from 25+ years ago, have been backed up to digital, because the tapes die every time they are played or remastered, FACT. tape has to be stored in an environment that is stable in temp and moisture....its exspensive to keep and its exspensive to buy. and yes there was great stuff happening in the 60's...but there is also great music out there today. enough of this "oh, back in the day" bullshit. because thats what it is bullshit.
Well done! Not many people get to do the job they love. Its true though - when something goes wrong and youre to blame you will write the "life sucks ass thread" like dricas24 said but hey - who knows you may get rich and famous and never get blamed so live that life to the full and dont let anyone grind you down
back in the old days there was just as much if not more shit. atleast today the RECORD companies are not in %100 control.,,,in the 50', 60's and 70;s if you were'nt being recorded by a major record label you weren't being recorded at all. gear was so expensive, they had a monopoly on it. and the record labels for the most part put out shit. stuff that would appeal to the mass. and just like today and forever on, there are a few GEMS worth listening to. ALOT OF YOU NEED TO GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR ASS's.....bands like LED ZEP and the Beatles were so rare.
Hey, that sounds awesome! I'm working on getting into the industry myself. I'm in recording arts school now, so we'll see where that takes me. I'll be on an internship before this year is through. I just need to find a studio where I'll actually be able to show that I know how to record... and not just fetch coffee and clean the place. If you have any studio recommendations, solla._.sollew, let me know! And as far as "old school" goes... think about it. In the past, the home studio was basically non-existent. Today, it's pretty cheap to have a digital home studio. So that means that really all artists who are making music now have the means to produce their own stuff! How can that be worse than "the good old days?"
I'm thinking Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." Those echo-reverbish vocals weren't made on purpose, you know. Prefect example of print thru... only that time it worked to their advantage.
