    • wont give any of my info (including the content of my emails) to anyone else, including advertisers, government of any nation, etc
    • free
    • ethical
    • supports good causes
    • doesnt censor
    • adfree would be nice
    • massive amount of storage space

    ___________ @ yahoodotcom

    • is free
    • has fairly good size messages/ storage
    • doesn't censor (to the best of my Knowledge)
    • is dependable
    • is robust
    • has good longivity (track record)
    • is accessible from virtually any Net conn
    • is excellent for data storage... more difficult to misplace than CDs/ flash drives
    • is self contained - not dependent on any other nonOS app (ie: Eudora/ outlook/ outlook express)

care2.com is free, ethical and supports good causes. On rare occasions it can be a bit glitchy though...

It is not free, but what I did was register my own domain and bought a web hosting package, along with a webpage and 50GB of online storage, I get 500 email addresses. I provide email accounts free of charge to many of my friends. My web hosting company provides web access to the email accounts, but you can also use Outlook, Thunderbird or whatever. The whole thing costs me less than $100 per year.

The big problem with Google is they log everything and they keep everything. They have publicly admitted that even if you delete an email in your gmail account, Google is still archiving and keeping it. So if you are having an affair and think deleting the emails from your girlfriend will protect you from your wifes lawyer or the Private Investigator she hired, you are wrong.

When you first went to google, it deposited a cookie on your system with a unique serial number and it logged the IP address you were using. When you entered your search term, it logged the search term along with the cookie serial number and your IP address. They also log every link you clicked on from your search result. If you have a gmail account, it does not take a genius to figure out that your gmail account is linked to your cookie serial number and your IP address.

The problem then becomes an issue of privacy. They are logging massive amounts of information on everyone who uses thier service. The government has already served them a subpoena for search terms involving pornography, Google fought the subpoena, lost in court and turned over the information. The government did not ask for cookie serial numbers or IP addresses this time, but they now have a win under thier belt and it is very probable in this day and age of warrantless wire tapping, the next time the government serves google a subpoena, they will ask for identifying information such as cookie serial numbers, IP addresses and gmail accounts.

http://www.google-watch.org has more information on this subject.

AOl, & MSN suck. Obviously. I like gmail. I seriously doubt they are any better..Futhermore, with all the other spyware out there, how much do you expect to be hiding if you're running windows to begin with. You can minimize it, but you're better off running something else. Fortunately, I'm not worried about them finding anything either. So, I really don't see what the difference is.

I think we're more likely to see debtors prisons making a comeback than the government giving a shit about my aunts wedding date, what birth control I use, or whatever..

Yay you. I need windows for reasons. So, what are you worried about them finding, really?
If they're creeping everyone, what makes your email so important to them?

So, I guess some of us don't really need to give a shit. That's what I'm saying.
As much as I appreciate being informed about things... The preaching is getting a bit ridiculous.
They are no worse than lots of companies, & they are certainly still better than some.
My propaganda tolerance is low. Didn't mean for that to come off as an attack.

Money, & time are politic, the way you choose to use them. Taking up the cause and propaganda of opposing companies...Is just that. Think of it in terms of sheer numbers of people.
Quite frankly, let 'em go, I don't give a shit. I'm positive I'm small potatoes compared to some of the twisted fuckers out there. How many people will actually be targeted for prosecution. Or anything else. Even as far as spam goes..For real, get a grip.

    lol fritz..............

    Go meditate or something...............

Does this issue really warrant 2, then 3 consecutive posts???? Ultimately it's a personal decision whether or not you want to apathetically accept that your privacy is being compromised. No, I don't have anything to hide, and I doubt anybody else does either, however some of us just don't like the idea of it, regardless of whether or not its harmless................if your neighbor was opening your mail would you still be so dismissive?? What if all your neighbors opened your mail.......I think that's where i'm coming from (cant speak for anyone else) ....

......I'm just not ready to throw in the towel on personal liberty and freedom yet..........haven't been brainwashed enough I guess.

Oh, and by the way...........(and no i'm not trying to sound smug) but what "reasons" would one be forced to run Windows?? I can't think of one single Microsoft product that thier isn't a better open source version of, and besides that you can run any Windows program inside of Linux anyway........(again, I can see that you get worked up pretty easily so let me reiterate, I am not trying to be a smartass, I honestly want to know)
