I have set my seeds between damp tissues and placed them inside a clean margerine container sealed. i sat them on top of a heating pad which i set to low and left it. All of this after a big joint, i hope i didnt fuckup......Anyone got a better idea to gerM cause i read about using plates or whatever but i guess it doesnt really matter. im assuming you just need the right temp to get em to pop. ty guys for any help.:sunglasse

I just put the seeds in a damp paper towel on a plate with saran wrap, and stick on a shelf above the TV. Just being high enough near the ceiling will keep the temps warm enough and stable.

A heating pad will work too, but you should be careful not to get the seeds too warm. In a margerine container directly on top of the heating pad, I dunno, I tend to think that would be too hot. A plate would help insulate. You could also try putting a folded towel between the pad and the container.

Heating pads are normally used with rockwool starter cubes or peat pellets in seedling trays, and satured in water, so there would be at least an inch of 'insulation' between the pad and the seed.

You really don't need to add any heat unless it's cold outside and the temp in your house drops alot. Seeds should sprout at room temperature in 2 or 3 days. If the seeds are old/weak, they might take longer.

Don't seal the container, they need air.

I put my seeds straight into moist soil mixed with pearlite. They are started in a seed tray inside one of those propagors with a plastic lid. Really any method works as long as seeds are kept warm and moist. Starting them in a grow medium just means you don't have to hanle the seeds at a delicate stage.

But if its 60 degrees outside, is it safe to put the newly germinated seeds in there perm pots, or should i try and start em inside cause i havent had much luck so far with peat disks 3 of 17 afetr 7 days. so im a little frustrated. these are my last 5 seeds lol i want them to work out nice.

I always start indoors you really need temp to be above 70 degrees for germination. Not sure about peat disks I just use a germination kit which compirises of a seed tray, propagator with plastic lid, soil is included its general purpose compost mixed with pearlite. Some soils such as miracle grow tend to have to much fertiliser in them for seedlings. Just use general purpose compost that says for seedlings on the packet. I read somewhere that peat is to acidic for marijuana.
Start them indoors untill they look sturdy enough to plant out.

Would of thought weather is warm enough for established seedlings in most places. As long as the last frost has gone (end of may here in the UK) you can plant out. I would germinate and grow seedlings to a couple of inches tall then repot (you can bury them up to the first set (ovaloid ) leaves. Assuming you are not planting them in the ground. Have you read Rangerdangers guide to outdoor growing thread on cannabis outdoor section.

yeah, ive read a lot of stuff all over the net, the weather here is good for growing, just we have been stuck with some below seasonal temps, lot of overcast days and increasing cloud kinda thing. i guess a system of low pressure is what the weather man would say. but i have faith lol. ty for the help

Hum, I'm experimenting with some seeds, first time and stuff. They are just seen from weed I've bought. They look good and all, but I'm just seeinf if I can make anything happen. I'm leaving in less then a month for summer so no use in starting the real thing.

Anyway I put seeds in the moist paper towel, then I laid them in this thick stone thing, and I laid that on top of this candle holder and they are gettng heat through that. How much heat is too much?

I found these starter plugs from sunleaves, they have a predrilled hole in the center, just drop in a bean, add moisture, heat to 78 degrees and they're off! about 75 cents apiece at my local garden supply
they work well for hydro...the same for soil
