hallucinogenic snuff thread

yopo is a south american hallucinogenic snuff traditionally made from cooking seeds and snail shells, and it is blown into the nose with a long snuffing device. it is very important in the social spiritual structure of people like the yanomami. the snuff is used to call on hekura, spirits who possess the body of the shaman and give them power to attack enemies and fight off illness.

there are two main species that i have read about. anandenanthera colubrina and anandenanthera peregrina. analyses show that different varieties of both species have different ratios of dmt, 5meodmt, and bufotenin. some have mostly bufotenin and very little dmt or 5meodmt. the obvious difference is that dmt is very visual 5meodmt isnt. bufotenin is hallucinogenic sort of but mostly makes one feel very sick. and feeling sick (nousea puking) is a dominant feature in most yopo experiences snuffed or smoked so pretty much all yopo is unrecreational. i have had colubrina seeds that had high concentration of dmt. its duration snuffed is somewhere between smoked dmt and ayahuasca, but it is similar in terms of psychological visual and sensory effects to both. yopo may have more spiritual overtones than pure dmt, similar to ayahuasca. the purge element may play a role in that as it has a very cleansing effect on your soul and body.

yopo seeds can be smoked straight for immediate effects, which may give a person an idea as to the ratio of the three active tryptamines it contains.

 

so if i were to purchase anandenanthera colubrina seeds or anandenanthera peregrina seeds i could just smoke the seeds out of a normal pipe with a normal lighter and experience the effect of that of dmt?

Considerable chemical work on Anadenanthera shows conclusively and consistently that bufotenine is the only significant alkaloid in mature seeds of both species used for snuffs. Up to 7.4% bufotenine has been found in seeds of A. peregrina var. peregrina, only 0.04% 5-MeO-DMT and 0.16% DMT; 12.4% bufotenine in A. colubrina var. Cebil, with but 0.06% and traces of both tryptamines, respectively. Seven studies of 15 samples of Anadenanthera snuffs likewise showed bufotenine to be the only tryptamine present in significant amounts (up to 2.67%, with only traces of 5-MeO-DMT and DMT)

this information does not mean that you cant have a full blown dmt experience with yopo. i smoked a big hit of colubrina seeds from a bong and had a mild psychedelic dmt effect. i prepared a snuff and made a line that went up my nose hard and fast and i had a strong dmt/yopo trip.. you can tell when its dmt by the flood of visuals.

 

yopo is for those serious about shamanism...its not for recreation, if you are looking for a drug yopo will kick your ass. i wouldnt recommend it to your average tripper. also it can be incredibly painful on a physical level as well

 

just got thru the ethnobotanical epic One River. towards the end, the author (wade davis) writes: "he [richard schultes] found something that he had never seen in thirty years of studying hallucinogenic plants: the casual, essentially recreational use of drugs. In every house hung a bamboo tube of snuff. The Indians took it formally during rituals and festivals, but any man was free to dip into the stash if he felt the urge." p 475

this snuff is the red inner bark stuff, vs the seeds. (bark of virola theiodora)....... is this stuff also nausea inducing, or could it be perhaps milder and hence more practical for use by those of us who are not yet shamans???

 

ok...so this is what i can do...

find an online vendor that sells anandenanthera colubrina seeds or anandenanthera peregrina seeds, once they get here i pull out my marijuana glas pipe and light up the seeds and inhale the smoke? what will the MOST LIKELY do to me. i mean would i have the nausea and/or physical pain? or what? if you could explain to me what a tipical experience doing what i just said would be like.

 

smoking seeds is harsh but the effects are mild, unless you smoke a lot of it.
whatever happens it will only last for about five-fifteen minutes. you may feel a little different for the next half hour or so.
you might feel some nousea but nothing that will make you puke or beg for relief unless if you smoke a lot of it. lying back on the couch and closing your eyes can be pleasent and you may get some visuals... but no dmt breakthrough from smoking seeds unless again if you smoke a lot of it

 

what is a small amount to smoke and what is a large amount and what comes along with the large amount. you said nausea and what else

 

I assume you can only get these online? Or can you buy the seeds at like Pikes or one of those places??? I really want to try this stuff. I am partial Cherokee Native American and really want to speak with the Warriors of the Rainbow. If you dont know the lore then go onto google and type that in.

Hahahah, no, the effects are not even comparable to smoking dmt. Most people aren't even ready for that kind of experience.

 

Do you have advice on preparing the snuff? I am into hallucinogens for shamanic purposes over recreational and I have been looking to try Yopo for a while now but I've had trouble finding a way to prepare it.

 

Oh, and are you sure that Yopo contains Bufotenine? I thought it was only obtained from Bufo Alvarius toads.

 

yopo snuff can be made from heating yopo seeds in a open pan untill they pop open then they are ground up and lime or baking soda is added

 

Thanks, man. Do you know how much baking soda should be added? Like a ratio?

 

um use 3 to 4 seed depending on there size and 2 parts yopo to one and a half parts lime or baking soda 2 to 1 one seems a little to strong for most people you can always adjust the dose

Each harvest of seeds is very variable in alkaloid content. The cebil strain of Argentina is more potent.
