Just want to introduce myself... Became interested in the 60's when I was in my mid teens, but grew up on the music of that period thanks to my parents. Then a few years ago I decided to get with the times. I was sucked into the mindless vortex of the cult of celebrity and reality TV shows. Spending money and walking around shopping malls every weekend was my favourite way of feeling good about myself and the world. But recently I reached saturation point. I had had enough. Now I realise why I used to get anxiety attacks from reading the sunday papers - it was because I was being bombarded with the latest fashion, cosmetics, celebrity pictures, gadgets for the home! So... out went anything that represented the wankiness and shallowness of today and a re-awakening of my old interests. I am feeling a lot better for it. Currently reading "The Status Seekers" by Vance Packard. First published 40+ years ago but quite relevant to today's society. Next will be "The Hidden Persuaders" and "The Waste Makers", both of which I suspect will be just as relevant. Sociology - what a fascinating subject! I came here so I could be among like-minded individuals, young and old. So, howdy one and all!
Why can't there be a million more yous? Welcome to the forums hun, and PLEASE, please post alot! I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions, you seem totally awesome! Warm welcome.
"Spending money and walking around shopping malls every weekend was my favourite way of feeling good about myself and the world." wow, talk about deja vu! You have a great way of expressing yourself! I managed to shed my old life several years back. Let's just say the old cliche is true- less is more! Happiness makes you rich- stuff just makes you responsible for more stuff. It took a special person to share these things with me and now there is no turning back. There is so much more to learn and experience on this journey.
