okay, so they have a voting system. and the viewers can supposedly text/phone in their votes. and help the most talented singer to eventually become the next "american idol."

so wtf? why was chris voted off? he had the best voice, and greatest stage delivery of everyone else combined. this reminds me of what happened to bo bice (in the previous season). his voice (and delivery) were a million times better than miss carrie underwood's. but she was such a pretty little thing, huh? even though a corpse could deliver a better live performance than she was capable of. nevertheless, pretty sells. even when it has no talent. and that's why we see her sweet little stiff face plastered all over the place now: magazines and newspapers and the internet. is this what america has sadly come to? all surface? and no substance? whatever sells?

it was not always like this. remember major talents like janis joplin? she was not exactly a covergirl-model type. but her awesome voice and stage delivery made no-talent people like carrie underwood look like a wooden little doll. carved by the music industry to make tons of money. based more on image, than actual singing talent. how very sad.

so are you happy with that, my fellow americans? are we all about image now. and to hell with actual talent and ability? if that's the case, perhaps it's best that chris was voted off of american idol: they place serious restrictions on the so-called winners. and since he is now a "loser", he can call his own shots, and not have to answer to the clueless producers of the show.

in other words, he's a free agent. you go, chris! based on your great voice and stage performance alone, i will buy your CD, when it is released. and know that talent and ability have little to do w/american idol winners. it's all about image and a pretty face. you may not be a pretty boy, darling. but you are talented as hell. and put the rest of them to shame. so hold your head high. and be totally relieved you are through with the american idol hypocrites.

I heard somewhere that he was going to become the new lead singer of the band Fuel. After he did their song "Hemmorhage" (which I like to call the biggest rip-off of Elton John ever), they asked him to join if he didn't win American Idol. I wish him the best, even though I think that everybody who involves themselves with that piece of shit show deserve to die.

American Idol is crap. Those people can't even compose songs or play an instrument most of the time, and there's talented people like Zach who you've probably never heard of.

i like taylor lots. he has a beautiful voice. plus that gorgeous gray hair! and he will win now. at least that's my prediction. but chris rocked the crowd too. and had lots more talent than kat and elliot (is that his name?). so i was stunned when he was voted off. and pretty much take the show with a grain of salt now. but i guess he will still be appearing in concert w/the other top 10 singers? plus be a part of the group cd they always come out with. i'll actually buy one of those now. i mean, if chris is singing on it. lol.

But still the fact of the matter is that these people are good at singing other people's songs, but what about their own? Why don't they do that? Have people write their own songs and have them perform them? Ya wanna know why? Because these singers don't have any talent outside of singing other people's songs. That's all that these people are capable of doing.

i think its more of a fact that they are on a mainstream tv show... so they gotta sing songs that the audience already knows... some of the people that are on the show have had singing careers of a much less mainstream audience.. chris has his own band.. and i know taylor has been singing for a long time...

and sorry drumminmama... but aint american idol a music show? so this could be discussed in either the music or tv forums... the Grateful Dead & Phish forum discuss SCI, Moe. and tons of other jambands.. but no one is complaining saying that its a GD & Phish forum :p

I'm continually amazed that people who seem to have a decent taste in music like this show. Its not even the type of music they like, yet they still have these strong feelings about it. They wouldn't like others who sing this type of solo performer garbage on the radio, yet they won't miss an episode on tv....

haha - thats funny cause thats exactly what i say to people who watch the show. I think the appeal though is the compitition, because even though i woulnt listen to that music for a second if it came on the radio, its fun to pick a favorite and route for the person you like. and also the audience didnt vote off chris, bo bise, or constantine or anyone! - fox votes of whoever the fuck they want to make people watch the show. now one might think, why would they vote of the audiences favorite to get more people to watch? the answer is that it creates hype, and youll see on the news that there might of been an error in the voting and some votes didnt get through or something like that and that creates more hype and ratings go up! - its may sweeps people - the networks will do anything to make you watch their shows.

ps - im not saying that theres anything wrong with someone who watches the show - its entertaining and its well made enough to keep people hooked.

yea... i've never watched it before... but my gf at the time was a big AI fan.. so i wasnt really paying attention and then Taylor Hicks came on.. and he could WAIL on a harp... so i was like fuck yes... i'm watchin this guy... i'll probably never watch another season after this... all in all i find AI to be a cancer on the music industry... producing mainstream crap.. worse that that of boy bands

taylor's gonna win. if he doesn't, then there's no justice in this world. lol. he really put on a good show this week. i think he knows he's a fave of the audience (and judges). good on him. he does have lots of talent and personality.

do you mean all of society? or just american? because not all cultures are the same. and their value systems can be way, way different.

    jenny

ps. the saddest part is this: someone like janis joplin would have been voted off the show pretty quick. and would have been lucky to make it into the top 20. because look at most of the winners so far? they are all conventionally gorgeous (or way, way handsome) enough to sell products. that's what i always loved most about janis. she was all about inner beauty. she knew how much it hurt to be shunned just based on what a person looks like. and that's what made her so beautiful and special. plus she had more talent and soul than all the AI winners combined.

good point, I should have been more specific, I really mean world society as a whole, western society is obviously the worst, as if that weren't bad enough, amerika constantly tries to jam western culture down the throats of the east and the third world.

On the surface a show like "American Idol" is harmless in fun, but if you stand back and look at it from a sociological point of view, it's very very sad.............the image factor, the fact that most of the people have no talent, they are just born with the voices that pop producers can use, none of them play instruments, and I really doubt that any of the voting is even counted........Michael Eisner and the rest of the Disney shareholders are the ones who pick the winner..........they choose the one they will most likely be able to capitalize off of, I don't have any evidence to support this theory, but I also believe that most contestants are probably coerced into signing a contract that would give Disney veto power and a high royalty percentage over thier careers for a number of years.

wow. i love your analysis of it. i have had my doubts myself. but was never able to fit the pieces together as brilliantly as you just did. of course the whole thing is about what will sell/make the most money? and that is pure capitalism, huh? which rarely has anything to do with talent or originality? i guess it all really boils down to big business? even the poor souls reaching for their phones? and thinking they are helping to decide the winner? which thankfully i have never done once. more to do with low income. than any kind of business sense. lol. you are really insightful. and that's so way rare now. i really admire that.
