the meaning of life is simpler than we all think we need to make a change, not something big, but not something small, change a life, change something that more than you will remember once you've made your change you can be comfortable in your own mind, you don't need to worry about the small stuff, education...careers...money make your change and the rest of your walk in this life will be one to remember *yet again one of those things that come to me when i'm stoned and trying to explain the meaning of life to myself*
Everyone spends so long trying to figure out the meaning of life...but it's so simple, and right there in front of you. Good thread man. This needed to be said....
there has to be a reason that we're here. we can't just randomly be thrown to this world rather than another. we must have a purpose. it's like going to school. we don't just go for something to do. we have a reason to be there.
that is such a false analogy i don't even know why I'm bothering to respond. why "must" we have a purpose?
Nothing personal, but that is the biggest bunch of bullshit I've ever heard. Since when do we not worry about the small stuff? Look, you want to lay around and not work or worry about money ever..please don't reproduce. Don't bring anyone into the world that has to depend on you. Do really think that the world should just hand you everything? That crap you're saying is not hippie logic, it's bum logic. The meaning of life is (IMO).....if you give something to the world, you get something from the world. Do things for the world..don't just wait on it to give you something. The small things are what make a difference, like treading lightly, picking up that piece of trash on the ground, being kind to children, helping people that can't help themselves. Oh,..... Education, Careers, Money, are BIG things. Don't kid yourself! I get so sick of people saying they can change the world, and in the same breath degrade the value of education and hard work. Grow up!!!!
tell it like it is!.I dunno - i only think no-one has ever in our history said anything to convince me there is a purpose - only that it's worth learning and experiencing as much as you can in order to find wether or not we have one.Luckily, the answer is different for each one of us - so no-one can ever tell you the end of the book before you reach it!
what has money really ever done FOR us? sure, we can buy things with it, but look what it's done TO us. look at countries without money compared to countries with money, if there were no money we'd all be equal. if you want to sit there and say that money hasn't caused any problems in the world go ahead
Ya' know that just sounds so easy. You probably have someone that pays for your upkeep. I've always had to work(for money) to feed my family. And before you make the assumption that I'm materialistic, know this..I don't live in a big house, or drive a nice car. I do for the less fortunate (and not asking for credit for that) and I find comfort in it.(and money makes that possible) Money I make working. You make it sound like those of us that earn money are somehow twisted or something. (like you're somehow above us) And really look at those countries you speak of.. look at the the sickness and starvation. I didn't invent money..but it's what we have to quantify what we produce. By the way, I sit here because I worked a 10 hour shift today (for money) With your attitude, you probably didn't produce anything today but smoke. (and bullshit)
Makes trade possible. Allows us to consume more - and don't act like you are above consuming. You're sitting here typing on a computer, after all. I've known 6 year-olds with better grasps on economics. The way society treats money is a symptom, rather than a cause, of our problems. You do understand causality, right?
money will always exist through an evolutionary process if money didnt exist people would barter until currency appears
Thank You! Makes me think of a line in "The Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith. Nice.... "No complaint ... is more common than that of a scarcity of money". Not just what you said, but the way this thread seems to be headed.
I think Short-man has it right in some sense. You might not agree, but don't give him such a hard time! And if everyone saw the world the way he does, then we all really COULD be equal. The problem is that that's not how everyone sees it (as you all pointed out). But if everyone does make a change in their life for the better, then perhaps we will at least see these "important things"--money, educatio, career--in a different light, and they won't worry us so much. I think that's positive. ~Nova
If you seek knowledge ,education will come.If you seek purpose, career will come.If you seek self reliance, money will come. You're right don't sweat the small stuff look at the bigger picture.
