    Quick question:

I have a couple of old lilac trees north of my house. They've been there as long as I've been on earth.

I was wondering if it would be possible to take a cutting and make it root. Would I have to use some rooting hormone as well, or will it take care of itself?

    Thanks in advance

they root very easily, just stick a cutting in water.

They take well from "root cuttings" as in, if you see sprouts near the base, or even a short way away (we'll not call them suckers, in this case!) you can take a square spade and separate some off, much like dividing a perennial. One that I did this with 20 years ago is now huge! I can provide pics of both the ancient parent and the 20 yr old, if desired. They're in full bloom here now.
