Ok, so since I started getting ready to open my shop, I've lived in front of my computer eating Gorp and Luna bars, my living space has become a disaster area, and my kids are ready to mutiny! How do I make the time to make it all work? My day doesn't seem to have any structure anymore.
Instead of staying on the computer all the time (which you may do, I don't know), work on making more items or just collecting more items. But, everyday you need to check in on your messages from whatever means you get messages through. With that out of the way, get the kids to finger-paint shirts and what-not and let them have a good time. If some of their stuff looks cool enough, sell it! =D Good luck, doll.
I frequently knot necklaces while I'm sitting in front of the computer, especially if I'm researching products or something that requires reading, or am listening to internet radio. I think rather than trying to constantly multi-task, I need to divide my day up into chunks: office/phone calls, production, order processing/customer service, kid time, me time, housework, product research/pointless websurfing. My kids are homeschooled and so when I begin vending I hope to include him in some of my business activities as part of his education. Edited to add: Nathan, please do not call me "doll". Shockienet, I think that that is a better means of thinking it, self management rather than time-management. Our son used to love making jewelry with the rest of the family & he was very proud when one of his pieces would sell...it's only a sweatshop if kids are forced to work. our kiddo was raised in the vending world, he learned to count back change at 3 & he taught himself how to add & subtract. Made his first beads at 2 (momma still has the pair) time management can be tricky for the self-employed, especially with kids; including the kids helps. is your computer in a place where the kids also have a work space (for crafts schoolwork, ect?) turn cleaning into a family project, even toddlers will pick up toys if other people are picking thing up too. Try to do one sit down family meal per day & take some time everyday to just enjoy life. Remember, nothing on the web is going to disappear if you take time to hang with the kids & you'll thank yourself later when your kids are off & doing their own thing.
