We are hosting a large footbag competition and hacky-sack jam, The Jersey Spike & Shred 2006, in Somerville, New Jersey, on Memorial Day weekend, ALL WEEKEND. Kickers of all kinds and skill levels are encouraged to come out to have some fun. There is an entrance fee to compete, but the event is FREE for all who just wish to come by and play. This event will be taking place in conjunction with the Tour of Somerville bicycle race, and we're expecting a festival atmosphere in the town on Memorial Day. Saturday and Sunday, though, should just be pretty laid-back kicking on the grass. Participants and competitor from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland have already confirmed their attendance, and more are expected from other nearby states. Several former and current world champions will be in attendance. Events include Footbag Net, Freestyle Footbag, Footbag Golf, and Hack Circles galore. Plus, my partner in crime in this endeavor is an avid drummer, and I'd love to get a drum circle going to make some rhythms to play to, and just for the fun of it, so bring your instruments. The event will be held on Main Street in Somerville on the lawn of the Somerset County Courthouse, weather permitting. Bump! Yeah, the event is just one week away, and I'll be disappointed if I don't see alot of Deadheads and Hippies at my Hacky Sack Jam. Come on, guys, and help me out! I already know alot of kickers are coming in from alot of places. One player is coming all the way from New Orleans, and a car-full of Canadian net players are coming all the way from Montreal. Those competitive and serious types are all accounted for. Now how about you circle kickers with all the years of hacking in the parking lots of concerts? Come on, don't be shy, I want to see you all bringing that special style to Somerville, New Jersey, next weekend. Drop me a line if there is any info that you need. Flipwalk@hotmail.com
Just out of interest, what on earth is a footbag competition? And, for that matter, a hacky-sack jam?
You know what a rock-n-roll jam is? Well, just apply that idea to footbaggin'. I'd LOVE to attend, man, but I'm in Dallas. It's all good...I've got my sandbag right here, not three inches away from my left hand. Hoorah! =D
