My friend just moved to Chico, CA for work. He is having trouble finding a scene. Does anyone know the scoop on the town?
hahahaha. go outside and aim toward people. If yer friend is good people, he will find thems like him/her.
a complete college town and mostly vegetarian. Is he as young as you? If so he should fit i pretty well.
place in town called the bean scene for live music. also the laxen auditorium on campus. never lived in chico myself. been up that way a few times though. paradise, east of there, used to be kind of red necked. probably still is but who knows. lots of music festivals along highway 70 south of there in quincy and bleden. some in chico itself. the most happining scene is nevada city and the san juan ridge. that's even further south then highway 70. along where 20 and 49 come togather. 80 is my own stomping ground that i know best. 49 is the road that runs north and south, mostly paralleling the 2000ft contour line along the west slope of the sierras. up there in chico i think you got 44 and 36 comming in and of course i-5 is the big interstate running north south. but interstates are boring, running down through the middle of that crappy hot valley. 44 or 36 will get you over to 89. 99 is the old north south road, and dangerous if you're careless or in a hurry. better stay on the interstate when you are. but otherwise that goes through marysville and from there 70 will take you up the feather river cannion or 20 accross to grass valley/nevada city going up into my sierras or the other way accross the valley over to willits and accross the coast range to ft brag/mendicino. also clear lake area. plenty of scenes in range of chico if you're mobile. you might want to listen to kvmr down in nevada city (89.5fm or www.kvmr.org on the web) or the local college station up there in chico. psa's about what's going on all the time. and every weekend there's at least five events and often fifteen, twenty or more. EVERY or almost every weekend! =^^= .../\...
I live in chico myself and have lived here 4 quite some time. What kind of scene is your friend in to? We are known for our park which is the second biggest in the US and I go there alot. It isn't a manecured city park or ne thing in fact it is mostly wild. There is always meditation/yoga circles if that is his/her thing. Also Chico has a good music scene for a small town. It's mostly a lot of rock, but also some regae acts come to town. Your friend should go downtown and look in any number of random resturants and shops because there is always flyer walls that pretty much explain every event there is to do here. He/she could also look in the synthesis (newspaper) for things to do event wise, and also the news and review has event listings. Tell him to e-mail me if he wants to hang out or whatnot. E_Man_on@hotmail.net. Anyway wish him luck for me. "Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence." disederata
