You should talk with your doctor about this... it's a tricky thing. There's a book called "Prozac and the New Antidepressants" that explains alot about the differences between the different antidepressants. Serzone and Wellbutrin are the best documented antidepressants that don't hinder sex drive (as much, at least). However, they aren't SSRIs, so they might not help with other things like prozac did. If you do decide to switch, or stop taking it, be very careful coming off Prozac if you've been on it for a while, it's got a wicked withdrawal.

If you're out of options, plan a date! Set up a romantic weekend, and stop taking your prozac a few days before that weekend and your sex drive should come back (it works for some people, at least). Typically there's a five-six day window before the withdrawal kicks in, just don't quote me on that. Talk to your doc! :)

try a tricyclic rather than an ssri. you could always try an maoi instead, but that limits consumption of certain foods (ie: beer and cheese)

welbutrin xl I love it. It's the same as zyban (an anti-smoking drug) and merdia (a weight-loss) drug though so loss of appetitie is a really big side effect ): I use it to treat my adhd and use effexor for anxiety, which I wish I never let them talk me into...you were right it's a weird drug I can't eat I can't sleep I hate it

Thank you Everyone for your replies. :)

Tomorrow I am going to see my Doctor. I will talk with her about this.

I haven't been on it for that long. It's a very low dose (10mg) but I'm so sensitive to medications that it still interferes.

Ohhhh to be happy, manage stress, and have a fulfilling sex life....

It's nice to see you are still around Fulmah. I hope you are well. :)

That is what I was taking before prozac. I'm thinking of taking it again and up'ing the dose. 900-1200 mg is safe to take. I also increased my omega 3's which is supposed to be a natural prozac. I've read it can help with depression.

I will give an update tomorrow after my appt. :)

Thank you Lynsey. I am feeling better today. I hope you are doing well also.

Really, Paxil? I'll have to look into that.

I had my appointment this morning. We talked about trying to work through the sexual effects. At this point there is nothing she can give to counter-act the effect if I keep taking prozac. However she said Doctors are working on it for women. There is stuff out there for men but nothing for women.

Yesterday I took half of the 10mg and 2 St. John Worts. I'm going to try that for awhile and see how I do. It's worth a shot. If it doesn't work I'll try something else. Options, options, options....

I mentioned a date to my husband tonight. Maybe I'll find out if my plan is working.

St John's wort is good. It worked for me, I used both tablets and tea. Don't take to much though because it makes you feel dizzy and very tired. I used to drink the tea before bed and it made me fall asleep quick.
