Bear took her this morning, and I thought she would just come home with her licence. At first he forgot (lost) his insurance card, so he had to come and get mine, then she came back and I could hear her crying in the driveway.

She said the lady was really hard on her. She is not a bad driver, but she didn't park uphill properly. She is just so upset. She needs to have her license, as she starts college in August, and she has to drive there (it is a local college) and if she doens't get her license by the end of this month, she will have to reapply for a learner's permit and wait THREE MONTHS, but which time school will have started. Also, if she is not in school FULL TIME she will be thrown off of our health insurance, and with her asthma, we can't afford that. Not to mention if an emergency happened (like the pneuomonia she had.)

I don't know what to do. Bear put this shit off for over a YEAR, and now it's the last minute.

I feel so bad, as she is so upset.

Think of us and hope she passed her test on Tuesday. She only gets two more tries and then she has to wait to try again.

In the state where a former REPUBLICAN govener was SELLING licenses to people who could not drive and people were getting killed by these people, I can't beleive my child is being put through this.

    I'm so sad.

I failed mine the first time. I made it through 5 minutes of the test before I had to turn around and go back to the court house because I made a traffic violation....about 6 points in a 3 point turn about. Haha. I felt so bad. My mom took me the next week and I did fine. Aced my parallel parking.

:D Wish Moon the best of luck.

I hope she feels better about it. This shit happens. Driving is really stressful for a long time, plus the added stress of being tested on it. Lots of people fail the first time.

Sorry to hear that. I failed the driving test the first time, too. And I cried too. I didn't run a stop sign or do anything particularly wrong, I just missed by ONE measly point. The lady had it in for me from the start--because I was wearing sandles. Not ANYWHERE in my driving handbook or in my driving lessons was there any mention of sandal-wearing during the driving test being discouraged (my driving lesson instructor actually wore sandals while teaching me!)
Anyway, it was very upsetting and frustrating at the time, but within two weeks, I had my license and all was well. Good luck to your daughter!

Oh, I know exactly how she feels. My dad signed all the papers as my home driver's ed teacher, but my mom was the one who took the initiative with everything, so since my dad signed the papers, he was the one required to sign everything else so I could get my permit. For 3 years, he put it off. Finally, a week after I turned 18 (learner's permits aren't required once you turn 18 in Texas), my mom took me up to the DMV and I took my written test and passed it pretty well, and I could have taken the driving portion that day because someone cancelled, but my dad forgot our insurance card also, so I had to reschedule. Then the lady who gives the tests had some sort of an emergency on that day, so we rescheduled again. Then that day, it snowed, so she rescheduled me again. Thankfully I had that extra time to practice because I barely passed. I almost hugged her when she smiled and told me I got just enough points and said, "Shall we go in and get your picture taken?" My hardest part was parallel parking, though, because I'm not very good at it and I successfully got into the little space, but parked too far from the curb. Then I drove too slow for her taste and was "too cautious for my own good." I suggest taking Moon out and having her practice her parking and then have at the test again in a few days. My boyfriend is the best driver I know and he failed his driving test the first time, so don't let her get too down. You still have a few days left in the month, afterall.

Thank you all. I had to go judge a singing contest last night at my friend's Lodge, and when I went to kiss Moon goodbye, she had a little tear running down her face. Poor baby.

I hope she passes Tuesday. Thank you all for the well wishes.

I swear, some of the people at the DMV are just out to get you. My best friend got an automatic fail because she pulled out in front of a van which was well far enough away to be safe (according to her mother). I had to go over to her house to watch out for her because her mom didn't want to leave her home alone afterwards. :\ The 2nd time she took it (4 months later because there's such a backup here in Georgia), she got a 100 and the examiner she had told her that the other lady was a crackpot. I've heard similar stories... there are people at the local DMV that we all try to avoid.

Best of luck to her! Do you know what she messed up on? See if any of the local driving schools have a course somewhere... I know the one here is open to the public when there are no lessons going on so all the cones are set up for backing into a parking space, parallel parking, and the whole 9 yards.

We'll have our fingers crossed for her Maggie Sugar :) I'll have the kids pray for her over lunch on Tuesday too. I am so sorry she failed the first time. But between my husband & all of our sisters & their husbands, I am the ONLY one that passed the first time. Some places just refuse to pass you the first time, for some reason. (My husband failed his first time because he ran a stop sign that was completely hidden by a bush)

(((((((((hugs Moon))))))))) You'll do fine the next time sweetie!
    love,
    mom

Well, blame it on the republicans rather then parents procrastinating...what the heck does a political party have to do with the fact she could have done this a year ago?

"Bear put this shit off for over a year and now it is last minute.": couldn't you have arranged this too?

"In the state where a former REPUBLICAN govener was SELLING licenses to people who could not drive and people were getting killed by these people, I can't beleive my child is being put through this."

Your child is NOT being put through anything--she needs to practice her skills and go back to be tested. Would you rather the tester be EASY on your daughter and allow her to be licensed before her skills are up to where they need to be?

    "I'm so sad."

Not as sad as you would be, GOD FORBID, if she was hurt or killed due to licensing before she was ready...

It is so hard isn't it when our kids run into these obstacles in life? We just want to hold them and make it all better but sometimes we just can't.

SHE PASSED!!!!! Bear took her back Tuesday afternoon. She passed with flying colors. HOORAY!!!!

We sent her immediately out, alone, to get some take out for dinner, and I let her borrow the van to go to work last night.

Thank you all who thought and prayed for Moon. It helped. :)

I am so happy. Moon is excited. Now, all we need is an other car (where we live has no public transportation, a car is a basic neccesity.) We will probably sell our old van, get me a newer one, and use soem of the money, plus the money from the sale of Bear's old truck and money Moon has saved, and get her a nice, gas freindly vehicle.

Thank you all who were kind. :)

PS, to those of you who had a good time dissing my family, Moon isn't any better of a driver than she was Saturday Morning. It's a matter of WHO tests you in Illinois.

Now? Do you live in Illinois? Are familiar with the exGov George Ryan, who sold driver's licenses to people who could not only not speak the language but could not DRIVE? And that this caused the deaths of many people? Including an incident with a truck, driven by a man who had had his license taken away in several states, who could not speak English, but BOUGHT ONE from Ryan's people, and who then HIT ta familiy's van with such force that it started on fire and BURNED EIGHT CHILDREN TO DEATH, while their parents listened to their screaming, and couldn't move due to their injuries? Did you know the youngest child was a newborn baby? A muthafucking piece of shit like this can get a license in our state, if he BUYS one, but a kid who CAN drive and speak English gets a tester in a bad mood and gets the tester's wrath. Bullshit.

I can fucking RANT about the bullshit corruption that goes on in MY state if I want. Thank you for your "input."

For anyone who doubts the horrible corruption that has gone on in the State of Illinois, under the asshole Republican George Ryan, who, thank God, is going to jail now. And how innocent people DIED, how six children BURNED To death, in a crash, caused by an asshole who BOUGHT a trucker's license from Ryan's people, despite the fact that this murderer couldn't speak English and couldn't DRIVE.

    http://www.suntimes.com/output/ryan/cst-nws-mitch18.html

and this, the fact that the corrupt Ryan, despite his being found guilty of being corrupt, is still getting $16.000 a month in pension. This is more than the current gov makes!

    $16,419 a month, for now

Former Gov. George Ryan has the richest pension of any retired Illinois governor, and he will keep collecting his $16,419 monthly checks until he is sentenced, perhaps in August.

"The reason we wait for sentencing is that our attorneys tell us the conviction is not final until sentencing,'' said Robert Knox, executive secretary of the State Retirement Systems.

Once Ryan is sentenced, Knox said Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan must determine if Ryan's crimes were related to his official duties before the state can stop his pension, as the state has done with Cook County judges caught fixing cases.

Ryan's annual pension is $197,037.60, which is 74 percent greater than the retirement deal for former Gov. Jim Edgar. Ryan's pension is also 30 percent larger than Gov. Blagojevich's current salary of $150,691.

Ryan has been able to benefit from several pension sweeteners that Illinois lawmakers passed over the years to benefit elected officials who serve beyond the 20 years necessary to get a top pension. Ryan has 36 years of service.

Ryan has collected $566,660 in pension benefits from the state since he left office in January 2003. He contributed $234,926.28 to the fund during his career. Tim Novak

BTW, my dd isn't a better driver than she was on Saturday, so how well you actually drive has less to do with it than the mood of the person administering the test, at least in Illinois.

Hipchick, she is just so happy! One more kid to do errands for me. (Evil laugh.) No, she is really happy. And was just stunned that I offered her the car to go to work last night. We beleive in just getting them right on the road. Bear is going to have her drive out to DeKalb, where he went to college, next weekend. He does this with the kids, after they get their licences for more practice. They love it.
