    Assalamu Aleikom

Why is it permissible to hold a job in a country where the taxes go to killing Mulsims, people are only in everything for the material gains, and you spend all of your day with unbelievers?

Simple question~ short or long answers appreciated,
    from Muslims or not...

    on paying taxes:

we have to obey authority as long as they allow us to practice our religion freely. and as soon as they stop doing that, we should live the country.

here's what it says in the quran and from the prophet:

"O ye who believe obey God and obey the Prophet and obey those in authority from among you." (3:60)

"He who obeys me, obeys God; he who disobeys me disobeys God. He who obeys his authority obeys me; he who disobeys his authority disobeys me" (Muslim, Kitab al Imarah)

And create not disorder in the earth after it has been set in order.... (7:57; 11:86; 29:37)

these injunctions make it clear that as long as we are living in peace, we should obey the rule of law in this country.

    on getting a job:

we need it to survive. where else are we going to go? saudi arabia? [IMG]

lol. let's not make things harder than they have to be for ourselves.

    :)

i gotta run for now, but hopefully, that helps.

Well, the authority isn't exactly "from among us,"
but clearly we're supposed to live at peace with the laws of the land.
But, in most cases, that seems neither ethical, nor permissable-
as it contributes to the murder of our brothers and our sisters overseas...

you might be able to make the case if it we werent allowed to practice our religion in this country. but as long as we can live in peace, it's paramount that we follow the "authority" of this nation.

i have problems w this is as well, but it makes sense at the same time. it's important to not have divided loyalties. and i think this verse sets out to make sure that doesnt happen.

    well, trust me~
my loyalties aren't exactly divided here
    hehe

My main problem about all this is ethical...
playing into a system based entirely on greed,
and on top of that supporting an immoral government
(I was about to say corrupt, but that would be a
fact about governments in general that it's hard to get away from)

Here's what another group I posed this question to had to say~

The things I said were the same,
I'm just looking at how people responded to it...
