I wanted to post this thread here because it seems like the most appropriate forum...

I've noticed a few people writing (not just to me, but in general) of how shipping in some cases cost more than the actual item being sold.

Often if 2 items or more are perchased from a person on line, irrigardless of where they're doing business (etsy, ebay, etc) they can be combined into one package to save a couple dollars on shipping (less packing, weight, etc.)

Sadly, though, even going the most inexpensive route for shipping anything anywhere, sometimes it's a bit of a raw deal. As a buyer, if you have a problem with it, take it up with the post office or your local shipping company, not the seller. The sellers have no control over the cost of shipping and postage.

    Just an FYI.

and some places pad the shipping costs so that they get more of a profit.

i understand where you're coming from, but it seems to be a pretty recent phenomenon (especially, say, on ebay) to gouge shipping prices on mostly low dollar items. point in case: someone was selling a pair of foam ear plugs, which weigh probably the same as two toothpicks, and the shipping was more than $6. or thin paperback books with $8 shipping charges. i understand that shipping costs money, but i also understand that some people are just jerks

Well, that's where you gamble. Granted to make up for 'free shipping' times that sellers offer, they'll jack up the postage costs. Or, if they're NOT going with the least expensive route, but rather a major shipping company with all the shipping insurance and extra things you can add to regualr postage, than yes, it does cost $6 to mail something that would - at its cheapest - would only cost maybe a dollar to mail.

If you've a question about shipping, then email the seller individually. You have the right to choose which shipping method you want for your items, and if the seller still chooses the more expensive route, you also have the right to refuse the package and not buy it at all.

There are those of us - believe it or not, who do our best to be honest about shipping charges. But, because of the SIZE of the package (not just the weight), then it's often likely that postage costs more than your actual item.
