Has anyone read this Kurt Vonnegut novel? I just got done reading it, and it has to be one of the best books I've ever read. Any thoughts on it?
Yes I've read this book. I can't say I'm a big Vonnegut fan but this one was the better of the ones I've read. Kurt Vonnegut is a freak for sure though and dosen't have to be a bad thing. I mean "Kilgore Trout"? thats all I'm gonna say good book!
Yes, I read it about four or five years ago. Actually, the first book of his that I read was "Slaughterhouse Five," and that kinda blew me away. I have since read "Breakfast of Champions," "The Sirens of Titan," and "Galapagos." They are all verrrry weird books. I can't say that I remember a lot from BOC, but I do remember a bit more of Slaughterhouse and Sirens. Vonnegut is a satirical genius. I don't quite know what his message is, though, except to say that mankind is pretty much fucked up, confused, self-destructive, and not getting any better. Galapagos is reallly interesting. It tells the story of humankind's extinction, or rather its evolution from its present state. It is told by the omniscient ghost of a guy who was killed in a shipyard accident. That oughta tell you how weird to expect the story to be. I really enjoyed it. The Sirens of Titan had some very creepy shit about mind control by brain implant. It made me a bit uncomfortable. I have read this book along with many others of his. One of my favorite authors. The man is a modern day genius in my opinion.
Didn't like it at all, when I read it it felt like Vonnegut knew he was writing a bunch of bull and was laughing at me for reading it.
That's part of the reason I loved it. I wouldn't say it was bull...'cause I understood the basic message he was trying to get across. But he is laughing at you. He's laughing at all of fucking mankind...lol. And peacefuljeffrey...I'll have to pick up Galapagos next... Right now I'm in the middle of Another Roadside Attraction, by Tom Robbins.
I have yet to read a Vonnegut that I didnt love. Player Piano I think is my favorite to date, I believe.
I bought this book along with many others at a used book store, and on a whim at midnight I choose it out of my piles and couldn't stop reading. Fell asleep to it every night . Very,,, very literature. He know what is going on even if you aren't sure. life and love
