I love what eating more protein has done to lean out my body and mental health and I would like to gradually increase it until I can stomach a no refined carb diet but I am so sick of salmon and tuna and nuts and temph and tofu and cottage cheese and nonfat string cheese. I don't eat chicken, pork or beef so I need more options. Please help me with ideas. I don't cook so they need to be quick. I have been digging fava beans latley but will soon be sick of them too...I need a food list of lowfat proteins that are veggie friendly. and please don't say I am depriving myself because I am not if I feel like something 'bad' I eat it my stomach just got really small because I was sick for awhile so I am hardly ever hungry. just need healthy ideas please!
black beans have always been a favorite of mine. I rinse them off ... and then add them to salads, or they are good alone (or inside a burrito wrap), with salsa, cheese, sour cream or buttercream ranch dressing added to the top.. their damn cheap too!
mmm that's a good idea like to stuff them in a giant piece of lettucce with sot cheese and diced peppers...hmmm I think I am finally okay enough to drive to the store...it's only a mile away
Rice and beans. When you combine them the amino acids form a perfect protien. That's what I am told anyway.
Quinoa has complete protein. You cook it like rice. I have some good recipes, but experiment around with it. I like it best with bacon and pine nuts, with a touch of thyme and rosemary. Or you can get quinoa pasta and flour and use that instead of wheat.
Since you don't cook, you might want to consider a soy or whey protein powder supplement. You just blend a scoop into a smoothie, drink it down, and you've got in a serving of protein. You can either buy the flavored protein powders, which are more like meal replacement shakes and are often loaded with a lot of excess, or you can buy the pure protein and customize it to your taste (it's also more cost-effective this way). I use a pure soy protein powder by NOW Sports. One serving has 21 grams of protein (or roughly 40% of your daily protein requirement). I chose the soy based powder over whey because, first, I wanted a vegan supplement, and second, because whey has such a distinct flavor that I could easily see myself getting sick of. The soy protein powder has a much milder taste, similar to that of tofu and pretty easy to mask. Of course, I advocate getting protein from natural foods before using a supplement, but theres always this option if you need it.
I like lewis labs yeast buds. They have a yuuumy cheesy flavor. One table spoon is a serving size but I usualy do two teaspoons on two pieces of buttered toast (sprouted grain bread) or one teaspoon sprinkled on a bag of popped corn. It is awesome in vegi soup, but you don't want to put it in until after you have heated it. It is great on salad too! I am always suprised by how full I feel and how pure the protien energy is...I feel like I glow after I eat it.
THANK YOU!!!!!!! I have been eating out too much lately but tommorow I am back on track and back on fruit veggies and protein and no more alchohol. I am quiting empty calories and an empty brain
